In Lesson 10 of Alex Anderson - Hand Quilting, Alex talks about needles that oxidize and truly "bad" needles.
While reading up on the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach this year, we uncovered buried treasure from last year's show. This little gem of an exhibit was called "Gold Rush" and was intended to reflect the period during the mid-1800s when prospectors came to California from all over the world hoping to make their fortunes. Enjoy this little collection of antique and modern quilted nuggets.

Once you've put all the blocks together for that King Size masterpiece, how do you go about ironing it?
Do you use your regular ironing board?
Do you have a large pressing board? Do you lay it on the floor?
How do you handle the bulk?
TQS wants to know, how do you iron a large quilt?
Colorado University at Boulder will open soon and it was really sweet to see all the Fathers shopping with their daughters at Target when we went to get supplies. Taping on Day 4 was fun and inspiring. Take a look.
Created in 1999, Baskets by Velda Newman. is a prime example of her ability to create a work of art inspired by ordinary objects found in the everyday world. The quilt is 42" x 44" and you can see another view of it in the Behind the Scenes slideshow for Episode 903.
To see how Velda creates her art, watch Episode 903 - Realistic Imagery: How Does She Do it?
Also available from C & T Publishing is Velda's book, A Workshop with Velda Newman, "Take inspiration from nature, then use color, shape, and texture to translate the world around you into amazing works of quilted art!"

It's hard to believe we are heading into August and right around the corner is September and Quilting in the Garden at the Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, CA. The great part about this year's show is that two TQS favorites are the Featured Artsists this year, Rob Appell and Verna Mosquera.
Rob will be teaching his Endanged Species Quilts designs and Verna will be teaching Tea Time Applique. And our own Alex Anderson will be teaching Cherry Delight, a red work and basics class. Click here to learn more about the classes.
