The Alliance for American Quilts held a number of "fun" fundraisers last weekend and one of our lucky TQS Members won a ticket to attend Marianne & Jay on the Runway. Karen Fitzpatrick (kfstitcher) got to spend the afternoon with Marianne Fons (you know, Fons & Porter) and her daughter Mary of the new show Quilty. Also in attendance, Jay McCarroll, first-season winner of Project Runway who now designs for FreeSpirit and to top it off, the outrageous Mark Lipinski who interviews a very confused Jay McCarroll for the Quilters' S.O.S - Save Our Stories project.
Thanks so much to Karen for sharing this smilebox with us!
This year's 21st Annual Quilt Show hosted by the Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild was held August 5-6 in Newport, Oregon. The Guild Featured Quilter was Jean Amundson. The Featured Guest Quilter was a TQS Favorite, Jean Wells, owner of the Stitchin' Post and recent inductee in the Quilter's Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana.
And this weekend, August 12-15, you can watch Jean in Episode 107: Portraits from Nature for FREE. TQS is opening up this episode up to everyone! This is the episode where Ricky demonstrates his one-seam flying geese technique (which has been seen on YouTube over 80,000 times). You won't want to miss it!
Enjoy this little tidbit from a wonderful quilt show and mark your calendars for next year, August 3rd and 4th.
Oregon quilters have quite a bit going on in August and September, keep an eye out for the next Weekend Fun where you can learn about Quilt County 2011.
Join them on the set for Episode 904: The Wonderful World of Embroidered Applique with Sarah Vedeler. Sarah shows Alex and Ricky how to create outstanding embroidery and applique designs and demonstrates the AccuQuilt Go! Fabric Cutter. Alex also shows Ricky to how fill a specific area of a quilt with an original quilting design.
The Record-Courier, based in Gardnerville, NV, has announced that the Carson Valley Quilt Guild will have prize money in the amount of $20,000 for their 2012 judged show. The show is scheduled for June 9-10, 2012 at Carson High School. This highly unusual amount of money is credited to the sponsorship of the Los Angeles firm of First Pacific Advisors LLC, who provides investment management services and has personnel in the Lake Tahoe area.
The competition will be open to quilt artists from the Lake Tahoe area as well as quilt artists from outside that area.
