It's that time of year, if you quilt, sew, or craft you won't want to miss C & T Publishing's annual sale, September 10, 2011. Their warehouse will be filled with more than 170 titles for sale. There are books on fiber arts, quilting, needle arts, mixed media and paper crafts. You can splurge on items priced rom $2 to $5 (we're talking books originally priced at $29.95).  They have even lower prices on patterns, magazines, and gift items.

There will also be a special quilter's booth where C & T will be discounting holiday gift items such as bags, journals, and note cards.

C & T is located at 1651 Challenge Drive, Concord, CA. The hours are 11 a.m to 3 p.m for the general public. If you are going make sure to get there early.  There is usually a line and don't forget to bring your bags or boxes to bring home your haul.

What, you say," I don't live anywhere near Concord," no worries. You can take advantage of the sale by shopping online all weekend on the 10th and 11th. Just click on the "Summer Sizzler Sale" link in the left margin of their web site.

The work progresses on the remodel - converting our oversized two-car garage into my new sewing room and workspace. Obstacles are never fun, but somehow we have to deal with them, move on, and try to learn from them. Two problems crop up and the project is just getting underway. One of them is pretty serious.

Creating commercial fabric from concept to market goes though many steps and usually takes about one year to complete. Today, Anna Fishkin who works with Red Rooster Fabrics in New York City, and coordinates my fabric line, got the first strike-offs from Japan. My designs are hard to replicate in commercial fabric because of the nuance of color blending and shifting. However, these turned out great. Usually we may have to go back and forth two or three times before we sign off on the strike-offs and go into production.

The good news is that instead of these being released in January 2012, they will most likely be ready for shops to see at Fall Market at the end of October and hitting quilt shops by February or March 2012! Whoo-hoo! If you like these crazy fabrics, what would you make?

Oh - and don't forget to leave your "whoo-hoo for Monika" in the comments.

So, you have every issue of Quilter's Newsletter, and now you need some space in your sewing room to actually4125_dsc_0001.jpg sew; what are you going to do?

You decide to rip out only the articles and patterns that you really "need."  But then what?  How do you organize them?  Do you scan them into your computer?  Do you file them away in binders?

Submit a comment and let us know how you get organized.

It's been a busy spring and summer for quilters in Southern Colorado. The Pride City Quilt Guild of Pueblo, CO, held their 2nd Annual Southern Colorado Regional Quilt Show this past March 31 - April 2, in the High Vista Gallery at the El Pueblo History Museum. The event  featured locally made quilts from ten Southern Colorado quilt guilds, and--as an added bonus--visitors were offered the opportunity to have their heirloom and antique quilts documented by the Museum.

The show was even larger than last year, with over 100 quilts displayed--so many that they spilled out of the main gallery into several adjacent meeting rooms. The featured quilter was Scarlett Rae vonBernuth, who died in January 2011. Scarlett was a master quilter whose quilts won numerous awards at many quilt shows.  “Scrap quilts are my favorite because I always use odds and ends of fabric,” Scarlett was known to say.

Across the street, at the Pueblo Convention Center, The Quilt & Stitch Expo held their (9th!) annual event as well.
The Expo indluded 57 vendors from such states as Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin selling fabric, patterns, beads, yarn, various crafts, related gifts, and sewing machines. Numerous 1 1/2-hour classes were also available, and an additional highlight was the exhibit of wallhangings from the national Hoffman Challenge.

In June, the Heart of Colorado Shop Hop featured seven different Southern Colorado quilt stores. Participating quilt shops even printed special fabric for the event!

Next year, the 3rd Annual Southern Colorado Regional Quilt Show will be held a week later than usual, April 12 - 14, 2012, with the 10th annual Expo to follow on April 13 - 14. Mark your calendar now so you don't miss another fun-filled, all-quilts weekend in Pueblo, CO.

PS: I was honored to be a monthly presenter this year for the Pride City guild, teaching them how to photograph their own quilts, and was impressed with the large membership and the quality of their design work.
