Alex just got the news from Caryl Bryer Fallert! Here's what Caryl said:
I got home from Houston last night just in time to go to the awards ceremony
for the Rivers Edge International Film Festival at Maiden Alley Cinema in
Paducah. STITCHED won viewers choice!! This is the first award for this
talented team of independent film makers. Congratulations to Tom Gandy, Jena
Moreno, and Nancy Sarnoff for finding the pulse of the quilting subculture
and introducing it to the rest of the world. Bravo.

Spend a day expanding your quilt knowledge at the "Elegant Geometry" exhibit on view now through January 8, 2012, at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum in Lincoln, NE. The mosaic quilts on display are silent testimony to the unbelievable amount of time, patience, and skill shown by their makers.
Mosaic quilts are eye-dazzling textiles made from thousands of precisely shaped fabric patches formed with the help of paper templates. The technique was used in the British Isles as early as the 1700s, and became popular in other parts of Europe, as well in as Britain's North American colonies.
Not able to make it to the show? Watch a curator podcast to learn more about how these quilts reveal the process of assembly, the complexity of the results, and the frugality of the needlewomen who made them.
The latest Drive-by quilting was unique on two fronts. It was the first "threebie" - meaning three people and three quilts were flashed as we drove by. In addition, the quilts shown are for an organzation that helps abused children.
Claudia Barrett (center) says "the Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center in Winnsboro, TX offers a safe child friendly environment to children between the ages of 2-17 who have been sexually or severely physically abused or have been a witness to a violent crime. Every child gets to pick out a blanket or quilt to keep."

Bob Purcell (Chief Threadologist of Superior Threads) discusses Metallic and Topstitch needles. Stepping up from the sizes 70, 80, 90, 100, the width of the shaft changes in size which in turn the eye of the needle will grow larger.
Enjoy some of the quilts from the Celebrate Spring! 2011 Exhibition at the Houston International Quilt Festival presented by the International Quilt Association.
Watch Ami and her volunteers set up their booth on the last day of the show in Houston. Watch 'til the end, they get a little goofy.
Ami also wanted to remind you about popcorn bidding for the Stanley Cup Quilt-Off online auction in which Alex and Ricky are participating. Here's what she has to say:
Our online quilt auctions feature dynamic bidding, also known as "Popcorn Bidding." If a bid is made within 9 minutes and 59 seconds of the auction's scheduled closing time, Popcorn Bidding automatically extends the scheduled closing time for the auction of that particular item for another 10 minutes after the bid is made. Each subsequent bid resets the clock to allow bids to be made for another 10 minutes. Once there has been no bidding activity for 10 minutes, the bidding is considered completed and no further bidding is accepted. The auction for the item is closed. As always, the person who placed the highest bid wins the item.
Popcorn bidding prevents a practice known as "sniping," where bidders place a bid in the last seconds before an auction closes, thus preventing other bidders from responding with a higher bid. Auctions which employ Popcorn Bidding mimic traditional "live" auctions.
As always, if there is a specific item you really want, it is in your best interest to monitor the auction during the last few minutes.
The auction ends this Thursday, starting at 9:50pm CENTRAL time should be very interesting to watch should there be any popcorn bidding going on.

Susan Van Swearingen (TQS member name: sooze52) dropped by the TQS booth in Houston and dazzled us with her coat of many colors. She created the coat from Cherrywood Fabrics, both digitized and used OESD embroidery designs, and designed the lining fabric and had it created by Spoonflower a company that prints your custom fabric on demand.
