Drunkard's Path Scrap Set by TQS member Nerak

Karey Bresenhan, president of Quilts, Inc. and Lark Crafts have teamed up again to work on what promises to be another outstanding quilt collections book.  This time around the focus will be on traditional quilts.  500 Traditional Quilts will focus on the history, quilt techniques, and diverse range of styles.

As a traditional quilter, this is the perfect opportunity to show off YOUR work.  But don't delay,  the deadline for entry is just around the corner.

"For this book, we’re accepting digital imagery, slides, and transparencies. Please see the entry form for additional information about photography. All paper forms will be considered, and we welcome up to five submissions per artist. There is no entry fee. Artists will receive full acknowledgment within the book, one complimentary copy, and discounts on the purchase of additional books. Artists retain copyright of their work."

Entries must be postmarked by May 15, 2012. We encourage early entries!

Go to Lark Crafts website (click on the button below) to download the Guidelines, Entry Form and Photo license agreement.  Both forms are required for submission.

Now that Alex and John have a grandbaby to take care of, a little help in the burp department might come in handy.

Take a look at these simple burp cloths for babies with a designer touch from Christie Batterman at the "See How We Sew" blog.

They are a great gift you can put together in no time at all.

To help you join in the fun, they are giving away a free pattern, an Ohio star with a simple Mariner's Compass center designed by Martha Ethridge. Mariner’s Compasses were used to guide sailors and it is possibly one of the earliest named quilt designs in America.

This month you will make the second set of paper pieced stars (3 copies again). Whereas the star in Month 3 was created as a ring, the star this month is created in sections that are then stitched together. Watch the video this month to see some tips for sewing the circular stars into the background hole.

Be sure to also watch the companion instructional video here.

Pepper Cory traveled the world as a child of a military man. She knows how difficult it is when someone you love is away from home. She designed The Road Home quilt for the cover of her friend's, Elaine Gray Dumler, book which was created to help smooth the transition home for those who have been deployed overseas. Pepper is offering the pattern for free as a gift to you.

The quilt is 82" x 82" and the blocks are 6". Pepper made it in red, navy blue, and sand.

4681_wall.jpgNot everyone has a design wall as nice as this one.  That's Philippa Naylor on the ladder in her studio putting together, appropriately enough, a quilt entitled, "Wall Flower."

What do you do if you don't have a wall?  Do you lay it out on the floor? Do you go to a friend's house or your local quilt shop for help?

Have you tried a pull-down wall, a fold-up wall, or just some flannel on the garage door?

Let use know where you look at your latest designs as you are creating them.

Philippa is featured in Episode 606: Showstopping Trapunto. Check your library to see if this show is yours.  Also, check and see if you have gift certificates for free shows and series.
