Birdland is another stunning, wonderful quilt from Laura Wasilowski that reflects a joyful and colorful life. The piece is 40" x 51" and is made from her unique, hand dyed fabrics and machine quilted.  This quilt and others can be found at Laura's website, www.artfabrik.com.

"Quilts of Valor," a 73-minute documentary starring national quilters Eleanor Burns, Alex Anderson, and Mark Lipinski and hosted by Marianne Fons, has just been made available to all public television stations nationwide by its producer, Iowa Public Television.

Three novice quilters were matched with three professionals to help them make quilts for the Quilts of Valor program which has awarded 61,458 quilts to veterans since it began in 2003.  The novices were Dan Gable, wrestling legend, Mary Lou Metzger of Lawrence Welk fame, and Heather Stephenson whose husband is a member of the Iowa National Guard.

To make sure this unique and compelling program is aired on your local station, contact your station's programming department and ask it to schedule the show.

For help in finding your local station, go to http://www.pbs.org. Contact your station via email, phone message, or personal note to let them know you want to watch "Quilts of Valor."

While taping Episode 1009: "Stamp Out Fabric" with Laura Wasilowski, a number of the TQS crew, namely, Alex, John, Ricky, Justin, and Lilo decided they needed to add some of Laura's quilts to their personal collections.  

Now it's your chance to own one of Laura's quilts as well.  TQS is giving away two of Laura's quilts (a $250 value) to TQS members.  The contest will begin April 27, 2012 and run through May 6, 2012. The winners will be announced in the May 8, 2012 Blog and Newsletter.

Here's a look at some of Laura's quilts that found their way to new homes. Note the exquisite embroidery stitches and the unexpected backs on some of the quilts.

The Paducah Quilt Show opened with flair!  Watch for the quilt mob and all the smiles.  Ricky was able to catch this on his iPhone.  (It's okay.  We are all authorized this time.)

To get to downtown Paducah you walk along the Ohio River. There are special wall murals.  (Although you may have to look fast.)
