Denim Flow is a new piece from Hollis Chatelain and is example of the kind of quilt you'll see her working on in Episode 1207: Out of Africa: From Life Experience to Incredible Quilts.

It is 42" x 34" and is machine appliqued and quilted.  Hollis used blue jean fabrics, hand-dye painted fabrics, poly-cotton batting, and polyester threads.

Artist Statement:

Denim Flow is the beginning of a new path for me.  My love of denim led me into a new way of making quilts. This technique of combining blue jeans and hand-dyed fabrics creates a soft sculptured impression.  When I finished this piece it seemed to resemble a topography map.

European fans of all things "needle and thread" have two wonderful opportunities to see what's new and outstanding in the world of quilting in the coming months. The Prague Patchwork Meeting (April 5 - 7 in Prague, Czech Republic) and the Expo Veldhoven (May 3 - 5 in Veldhoven, Netherlands) offer a whole host of exhibits, workshops, and shopping sure to please even the most discriminating tastes.

Highlights from the Prague show include quilts created by a group of eight Scottish artists (Turning Point) and works by SAQA artists, as well as a very unusual Round Robin storybook project. Expo Veldhoven will feature a special exhibit of works by artists from Italy, Israel, Norway, and France.

Found this dress, originally from The Gap, for sale on Ebay in the Tippy Toe Treasures store, which led us to wonder, where else do you find quilt patterns in daily life?  Would you ever take a quilt and make something else out of it?  What if it was an unfinished top only?

From Margarete Heinisch of West Hills, CA, comes the Winner for Excellence in Hand Quiltingsponsored by Bohin France, at Road to California 2013.

The name of the quilt is Mi Amor and was started in 2006 and finished in 2011.  It measures 86" x 86."

Artist statement: The purpose of this quilt is the 25th anniversary of my daughter Christa and son-in-law Jim. Baltimore quilts and all the diverse symbolic meaning so lovingly sewn in each block captured the heart of my daughter. I like to create somewhat my own pattern and put a symbol in each block which has a meaning in Christa and Jim's life style.
