The Rogue Art Quilters of Ashland, OR are sponsoring an Art Quilt Initiative open to all interested art quilters; membership in RAQ is not required. Design an art quilt that celebrates a notable woman--one who has made a difference in the world, past or present; one who would typically be well known in her field of expertise and recognized by at least a portion of the general populace.

The woman you select must be a Notable Woman, representational of her field of expertise and recognizable to at least a portion of the general populace as a well-known personage.

  • Think author, poet, artist,  singer, musician, humanitarian, politician, doctor, businesswoman, scientist, world leader, explorer, Et al.
  • It is understood that your mother/sister/grandmother has made a difference, but it is probable that she does not meet the overall criteria of this Initiative.
  • If you are looking for ideas, check out some of the links to lists of notable women on this website.

MQX Quilt Festival - New England is an annual machine-quilting show and conference founded by machine quilters, Janet-Lee Santeusanio and Mary Schilke. The event embraces all machine quilters, regardless of the size or model of machine they use to complete the quilting process.

TQS was lucky enough to have one of its members attend the MQX Quilt Festival - New England 2013. Cheryl Beglau (cjbeg) has graciously shared a number of her quilt photos for us to enjoy.

Who is this guy...and why is he wearing a quilted cape?

The streets of Historic Downtown Paducah will be buzzing with excited quilters this week as they make the annual pilgrimage to Quilt City USA ® to see the American Quilter's Society "Best of Show" winner--and so much more.

The show has a long and distinguished history: AQS has awarded $10 million in prize money since the show began almost 30 years ago!

If you can't make it to Paducah to experience the show in person, never fear. Paducah's very own super hero "Quilt Man" is here! Follow his QuiltWeek adventures on Twitter as he celebrates quilting with visitors from around the globe, honoring the innovation and talent of today's quilter.

Join TQS in Episode 1209 as we Saddle up and stop by for a visit with renowned quilters, teachers, and authors Georgia Bonesteel and Charlotte Warr Andersen at their annual retreat at the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch in Gallatin Gateway, Montana.

First the pair unveils a special quilt commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ranch, as well as retreat projects from previous years. Next Georgia demonstrates "picture piecing," her special method of paper piecing with gridded freezer paper, and Charlotte shows how it easy it is to use organza to create soft and shimmery effects in landscape quilts.

We finish with a tour of our historic ranch location with owners Kim and Kelly Kelsey.

Story Submitted by: mountainquilter

Six quilters created a fractured quilt depicting the Blue Bridge, an iconic symbol of our local area. It was exhibited at a local art show and sold with the money going to the local cancer society. The money was used for fuel vouchers so that patients could drive to their therapy sessions. It was the first foray into fractured quilting for all of us. It turned out to be wonderful and we're really proud of it. We're currently working on another.
