There's going to be a lot of fun going on at the Long Beach Quilt Festival.  On Saturday, August 3, from 6-8:30pm you can witness the Iron Quilter Challenge.

Based on the popular "Iron Chef" television show, The Iron Quilter Challenge pits three well-known quilters (Charlotte Angotti, Debbie Caffrey, and Gyleen X. Fitzgerald) and their teams against one another to see who can create the best finished quilt in an allotted time period. And the audience gets to vote on the winner!

Enjoy a fun-filled night of fast stitching, trash talking, and creativity unleashed as you mingle with fellow attendees and move from contestant to contestant, checking in on their progress.

The evening will also feature an audience Show and Tell, a cash bar, and tons of prize giveaways, including a Bernina 550 QE sewing machine!

Admission for the event is only $15! Sign up for The Iron Quilter Challenge online (until July 19) or at the Enrollment Desk on-site at the convention center beginning July 31.

5788_ritzysrug.jpgHave you seen what's been going on in the Forum? It's the Mug Rug Exchange!

A Mug Rug is a mini-quilt that can act as a coaster or small placemat. It should be big enough to hold your beverage and maybe a small cookie (or a big cookie...)

If you are interested in exchanging a Mug Rug, post on the Mug Rug Exchange - Do it yourself style! Forum Link and let it be known.  You'll also find more information there about how to proceed.  When someone responds, privately exchange your snail mail address, and then when it is completed, ship off your completed Mug Rug - The best part is the surprise when your Mug Rug arrives in the mail.

It's a great way to complete a small project and make a friend at the same time.

TQS would like to see what our members are making. When you receive your Mug Rug, please post a picture in the Mug Rugs Show & Tell area provided just for that purpose. We know it will be spectacular.

A crafting enthusiast from a young age, the enterprising Mickey Depre earned spending money by making and selling handmade doll clothes . . . to her sisters! In this episode, the accomplished quilt artist, teacher, and author shares a sampling of her wonderful quilts, demonstrates the basics of traditional English paper piecing (including a nifty trick or two), and then opens the door on the infinite variations possible for those fabulous pieced hexies. The episode concludes with Jane Knight, who takes us on a tour of our day's location, The Charleston (SC) Tea Plantation, the only operating tea plantation on the US mainland. Brew up a pot of your favorite variety, settle in, and enjoy!

The show debuts July 15, 2013.
