It is with great pride and pleasure that we reveal our 2013 TQS Quilting Legend: quiltmaker, artist, and author, Michael James. Our first stop is the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where Michael serves as Chair and Ardis James Professor of Textiles, Merchandising, and Fashion Design. UN-L is also home to the International Quilt Study Center and Museum, and we're treated to insights on the collections from Michael and Carolyn Ducey, Curator of Collections.

Then Michael reveals how he transitioned from painter to textile artist, and the evolution of his work in the process. In addition, he shares a technique for enhancing a wholecloth quilt, and welcomes us to his home for a tour of his studio, a peek at his fabric collection, and a preview of the newest piece on his design wall. It's a fabulous finale to Series 1300!

Bill, discusses their latest book featuring their daughter, Sophie, A Kid's Guide to Sewing, from FunStitch Studio and C&T Publishing.

They also talk about Bill and Week's latest fabric collection, The Color Collection, and their magazine, Modern Quilts Illustrated.

6175_it_s_a_wonderful_life_google_search1.jpgOf all the holiday movies,"It's a Wonderful Life" is still my favorite,  I actually love the first part the best when he is so happy and dancing and falling into the pool. Every year I am surprised by how good Jimmy Stewart's acting really is.

This year, however, I added another "must-watch" to my list. Having seen the "live" version of Sound of Music recently broadcast with Carrie Underwood, I decided I wanted to take the time and give my undivided attention to Julie Andrew's version of the musical.  It was just wonderful!6175_sound_of_music_google_search.jpg

On a completely different "note," I also enjoy watching a good "lawyer" show.  My latest binge viewing was "The Good Wife."  It's a great show where the main character, Alicia, has to provide for her family by returning to work as a litigator after her husband, a former state attorney, is caught up in a scandal.

From "life to wife" it's all good fun!

Here is Part II of The Many Faces of Jerusalem, shown at IQF Houston 2013. It is meant to express what the personal image of Jerusalem is to the quilter who made each piece.  It is presented by the Israeli Quilters Assocation.

Come on! I bet everybody who reads my blog can guess what I watch during the holidays! I watch The Food Network and The Cooking Channel, of course! Honestly, my attention span is rather short these days, and I enjoy watching television shows rather than movies most of the time. I never cook the actual recipes from these shows--butter!oil!sugar!more butter! But I get lots of ideas for flavor combining that I come home and adapt to my low fat way of eating.

I also love the TV series "Doc Martin." And for actual Christmas shows, I will show my age and profess my love for the original cartoon version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and of course the Peanuts classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas." I tear up EVERY TIME Linus reads the Christmas story!
