Here's a beauty from Road to California 2014 - Heralds of Spring by Joann Webb of Grain Valley, MO. Joann writes, "My goal was to put all my favorite spring flowers into a bouquet that would never wilt. Flower sprays were arranged as petals in one large flower head.  Dimensional elements were developed with the "Do whatever it takes" method."  Did we mention that included, hand quilting?

Month 2 of A-Z for Ewe and Me! by Janet Stone, the TQS 2014 BOM, is just around the corner.  TQS members have been sharing their work, take a look.

If you haven't started working on the BOM - here are a few helpful tips to get you going:

Make sure you read through "10 Things You Need to Know" and the "Introduction Packet" found in the Instructional Segments portion of the BOM before starting your quilt.  Here you'll find all types of information including a wonderful reference chart that will help you organize your fabrics (particularly if you bought the kit). You can see just a snippet of the chart below.

Each month's pattern has cutting directions for each individiual block.

And don't forget, if you have any questions, you can always ask them in the Forum.

What provides your quilting inspiration? Is it pattern? Texture? Nature? How about art shows and museums?

From now through April 23, you can see stunning couture garments created by an amazing group of textile artists whose creations were inspired by items in the collection of the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.

Not able to make the exhibition? Check out the artists and watch clips of them at work on the museum's website.

In Episode 508, TQS visited the AFAM to showcase Paula Nadelstern's kaleidoscope-inspired quilt exhibit.

Caring Bridge Journal:

Arrived this morning to find Libby, Les & Tiffany finishing breakfast. Tiffany reported Libby independently showered this morning. Another step forward.
Libby, Tiffany & I dove into decorating gift bags for Valentine's Day. I mean Libby was starting before I had all the supplies on the table. She would put down a heart, then take it off and put down a different color. It reminded me of when she would pin fabric on her board when designing one of her fabulous quilts. She would get ahead of herself though and pickup the bag to show us before gluing it down. So what if it took a couple of tries and a little longer to complete. But Libby declared "Tiffany's is the winner".

Then we started some Valentine's Day cards. Libby loves to practice her handwriting. Only thing was she wanted to sign her name at the top of the card instead of the bottom. She always has had a unique style.

But mainly Libby was most interested in reading the new Quilting magazine I had brought. She loved seeing Alex & Ricky on the cover. She slowly turned each page, looking carefully at all the photos.

Today Libby was in a great mood but her language was a bit of a struggle. Really searching for the right words. Sometimes she would forget what she was trying to say but always she kept a positive attitude about it.

After eating almost all her lunch (a little late as she was still full from breakfast), it was time to practice walking. She got up and while going across the floor decided to just go ahead to her room and take a nap. So that's where this reports ends. It was a good day!

It's a new year and TQS is here to help you Star Members get into shape...with your quilting skills!!  Little Scraps of Magic is a series of fun, doable, confidence-building techniques that we'll share throughout the year. As with any new endeavor, there's some preparation (and homework) involved.

  • We recommend that you get a three-ring binder and a package of clear sheet protectors.
  • We'll provide a sample of each exercise as inspiration.
  • All technique exercises should measure 8 1/2" (unfinished) as we will share an idea of what to do with these blocks once you finish.
  • Every two weeks, we'll provide a pdf (on the Projects Page) or reference to a specific demo in a TQS show episode.
  • You can complete most exercises with things in your stash (unless you want your "Little Scraps of Magic" to have a consistent look).
  • You can start the 'exercise program' at any time, but we recommend following along with each lesson throughout the year.
  • As the year goes along, you'll have opportunities to win some cool prizes if you share your WIP on the Show and Tell page. Join the fun, "get some exercise," and learn some new techniques. You'll be glad you did!
