This is the kind of quilt that Karen loves to make.  No rules, no lines, and lots of space to quilt.  The quilt measures 51" x 54."  Even great quilters wish they could change things, Karen writes, "All these amazing ideas popped up into my brain after I've started quilting it. It's like oh, I should have done this and I should have added this here... oh well, they will have to wait until the next quilt!"

6431_1719_bernina550standard_0.jpgKathy from Florida, USA received the special call from Alex Anderson:

"Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!   I am just so excited, what a wonderful surprise.  I just know that I am going to love my new Bernina 550QE.  I can't wait to start using it.  I still can't believe that I won, as I have not won anything like this before!  I can't express how grateful I am!...  Creating is my therapy and is what has help me stay sane  through the last several years.  My dream is to someday just be able to focus on doing my creating and maybe getting back into selling some of my creations again.  Winning this machine means the world to me!

Again, thank you for the wonderful phone call with such exciting news."

Pat Sloan has a quick and easy way to add a label to the back of your quilt.

Pat says she came up with the idea years ago and it solves a few problems.

  1. They go UNDER your binding so they are super secure
  2. They are fast to make, we like that!
  3. And you sew 2 sides into your binding so you only hand stitch one side...

Are you in love with the clothes of Downton Abbey?  This wonderful video from PiepMiau04 gives historical information and closeups of actual garments from the Edwardian period.  The attention to detail and embellishment in these items is unbelieavable.

Music: from the Soundtracks of "Coco Avant Chanel" & "The Painted Veil", both by Alexandre Desplat.

More Than a Memory by Kathy McNeil took Second Place, Wall Quilts - Innovative/Art, at AQS QuiltWeek in Phoenix 2014. This quilt makes you wish you were sitting in the woods along with the little girl enjoying the solitude and wonderful contentment a good book can bring.

Look for the "ghosts" in the quilting.

When Alex visited Superior Threads she spent some time talking with Heather Purcell, Mother Superior, about silk thread, how it's made, and its many uses.
