Quilt and fabric designer, author, and highly sought-after teacher Kim Diehl loves to combine unexpected elements in her traditionally inspired quilts, and she brings many of these "hybrid" pieces along to share. Then stick around as she offers some of her best time-saving machine-appliqué techniques, demonstrates how combining ‘big stitch' quilting with machine quilting can give your quilts added visual and textural interest, and shows how to add a final pop of color to your finishing. We wrap with a field piece featuring quiltmaker, author, and teacher Christine Barnes who shares valuable insights into the properties of color, including value, temperature, and intensity.

Here's a quick project from Veronica at sewVery.  It's a non-slip machine mat with pocket storage and a detachable pin cushion. What a great way to liven up a sewing room and stop your machine from moving around on the table.

Tula Pink bought an old farmhouse outside of St. Louis and turned it into a showcase for her work. One floor is a showroom, another a studio, and the top floor is her living space. The white walls are highlighted by her colorful work, and while you may not see any "live" animals, you'll find them in abundance throughout the house.

Star Members can watch Tula in Show 1406: Modernize Your "Toolbelt" with Terrific Techniques.

Look what the MFA Boston Museum is doing...Quilts and Color” celebrates the vibrant color palette and inventive design seen in the acclaimed Pilgrim/Roy Quilt Collection.

The exhibition features nearly 60 distinctive quilts from the renowned collection and is the first to explore how, over five decades, trained artists Paul Pilgrim and Gerald Roy searched out and collected quilts with bold, eye-popping designs that echoed the work of mid-20th century Abstract Expressionist and Op Artists."

The exhibition runs from April 6, 2014 - July 27, 2014 at the Ann and Graham Gund Gallery (MFA members are free).  The MFA is open seven days a week.

Quilts and Color the Pilgrim/Roy Collection hardback is available now and contains more than sixty graphically bold American quilts from their collection.
