Lea McComas talks about her award-winning quilt, Bike Boys, which won The Superior Threads Master Award for Thread Artistry at IQA Houston 2014.  Lea's quilt has over ninety-one fabrics and 13 miles of thread.

Thanks to all of you who participated in the Inspired by Libby online auction.  It was a great success. In April of 2015 the collection will be shown at American Quilter’s Society Show in Paducah. After that the auctioned-off quilts will be shipped to their new owners.
 
$70,324 was raised to aid in the payment of Libby's medical expenses.
 
Thank you to all of the quilters who dedicated their time and effort.
 
And a great big THANK YOU to Clara Lawrence whose great big heart (along with an amazing support group) put together this fabulous exhibit and auction.

Cris Rohn Hartman (challenge co-coordinator) has sent us a wonderful Smilebox of the California State Park Quilts - 2014 challenge.  To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the California State Parks in 2014, a "challenge" was issued to guild members of the Redding Quilt Guild (The Quilters' Sew-Ciety of Redding, Inc.), to create a quilt depicting a California State Park. The special exhibit titled "Celebrating California's State Parks" consists of 57 quilts made by 57 quilters to celebrate and showcase the diversity and beauty of the 278 various state park units in the state.

This biennial exhibition was established to provide a venue for quilters of all faiths who see their work as a connection to the sacred and/or as an expression of their spiritual journey. The first exhibit was held in 2001 and the exhibit is held in June of odd numbered years. Their next exhibit is in 2015 and will be held July 10-26, 2015 at Floris Methodist Church, in Herndon, VA (outside Washington DC).
 
Sacred Threads is open only to quilters within the United States and Canada.
 
Quilts submitted should explore themes of joy, spirituality, peace/brotherhood, inspiration, grief, or healing.  Quilts must be an original design or an original execution of a traditional pattern.

Quilter, lecturer, teacher, and "Dear Jane" aficionado Laura Fraga is passionate about hand appliqué, and in this info-packed episode she shares some of her favorite tools, techniques, and tips for making templates, achieving the perfect invisible stitch, coping with tricky points, and creating flawless circles. (She also recently took up skateboarding, and manages to get Ricky "on the board." You won't want to miss this!) We finish by chatting with museum director Christine Jeffers, who gives us a tour of our taping location, the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, the first of its kind in the US to focus on quilts and textiles.
