Need a little break from it all? Why not slow down and join Laura as she stitches this sweet little Paint Brush for fun. It is hand embroidered on wool using techniques (7 different embroidery stitches) from her new book Joyful Stitching: Transform Fabric with Improvisational Embroidery published by C&T Publishing.

If you are unfamiliar with the 7 stitches Laura uses, she has links to instructions in her blog.

And, watch Laura here at TQS in Show 1009: "Stamp Out" Fabric where she demonstrates a number of embroidery stitches.

"Spot On!' actually won two awards at MQX New England 2018. It won Best Machine Quilting - Stand Up and Best of Show. Gail Stepanek and Jan Hutchison hand appliquéd the blocks and set them in a pieced background while Jan used colorful cotton thread and silver metallic thread for the quilting designs.

Maria's quilt, Albert Hoffman's Obit, was awarded the handi-quilter wall longarm machine quilting award at AQS Paducah 2009. We fell in love with the colors and the interesting use of multiple quilting designs.

Quilters Select 80 wt. Para-Cotton Poly Thread

Para-Cotton Poly Thread is made of polyester that has been thermally treated to remove undesired stretchiness and shrinkage, this thread looks, feels, and stitches like mercerized cotton. The fineness of this thread makes it perfect for your bobbinmachine quilting, and applique.

Quilters Select 60 wt. Perfect Cotton-Plus Thread

Perfect Cotton-Plus Thread has an outer layer of long Egyptian staple cotton that makes it great for piecingmachine quilting and sewing, while its polyester core lends added fineness and strength for increased accuracy and durability.

Chawne Kimber was inspired by a quote from Eartha Kitt's autobiography, Alone with Me, where she stated, "In essence, I am a sophisticated cotton picker." Chawne hand quilted the piece and feels it is a direct callback to the make-do utility quilts made by her great-grandmother on a former cotton plantation in Alabama.

Chawne's quilt was exhibited at QuiltCon in 2016.
