Heidi Proffetty has written a great article about quilting with a digital die cutting machine. She writes:

"Digital Die Cutting machines have made their way from the crafting industry into the quilting and sewing industries, and are growing in popularity among quilters, artists and creators. Ever since incorporating the use of a digital cutter into my quilt making process, I honestly couldn’t imagine cutting fabric shapes any other way. But just what is a digital cutter? And why would a quilter want to use one?"

We love this improv quilt from Tanya Munro and the Russian Improv Bee Group that we discovered at QuiltCon 2019. Not only do the colors pop out and catch your eye, the improv piecing is out of this world. Micro in Macro won 2nd Place Group or Bee.

Ricky came across this video and thought you might enjoy it. Doesn't everyone dance like their sewing machine?
Carnaval de Puerto Serrano 2017

Apparently this group does something quite impressive every year.

This was one of Capt'n John's favorite Red Quilts at Houston 2018. "I loved this quilt for several reasons. The simple but striking design really features the fabrics. When you walk up to it, you actually look at each fabric and the value changes, not just the design. Then using a circular quilting on a pattern of sharp edges was a fun approach. Everything worked for me and I enjoyed just standing there for awhile."

Heidi's quilt is based on a photograph of her daughter who was 12 going on 13. She titled it Blossomed because she was turning into a beautiful young lady.

Title of Quilt: The Map of My Thoughts

Quilter's Name: Magdalena Galinska

Location: Prace Suze, Mazowieckie, Poland

The Map of My Thoughts Novelty fabrics, bold colours and sparse quilting form this modern quilt, which depicts my ideas, feelings, expectations, boundaries, inhibitions, internal divisions and the process of crossing them. I wanted to create my own "fabric" from which this quilt was made. This time though not all is black and white but there is some colour – like in life. Contact with my quilting buddy showed clearly, that we are quite alike despite the differences and distance. Because we speak the same quilting language. This quilt will be a surprise for Zsofia, as hers will be a surprise for me. That is what we had agreed upon and I can hardly wait to see mine. And hope she will like hers.

Title of Quilt: Midnight Beauties

Quilter's Name: Zsofia Molgaard

Location: Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA

I got Lenka as a partner after my first partner withdrew from the exchange. I was really happy to connect with Lenka and to get her know a little bit through emails and Facebook. Communication started off really good since she speaks English so we didn’t have a language barrier. We quickly came to agreements on how we wanted to do the swap. Both of us like color and paper foundation piecing and decided to do a secret swap without a theme or any set directions. Both of us like the freedom of creating quilts and I personally love to see how other people work and create. And love to see their own style. Looking through Facebook I found her personality very bubbly and colorful got a little insight into her life/sewing. After a long search I decided to use the New York Beauty blocks with rainbow spikes on a black background. I used a rainbow variegated thread to quilt my mini. As a modern quilter I’m in love with walking foot quilting so after thinking for a while an idea pop into my head and decided on stitching in the ditch around the NYB blocks and use matchstick quilting for the background to emphasize the color play in the quilt. I really love how it turned out. And I’m glad I had the chance to meet Lenka through your program. I hope we can meet in person sometime. I would do it his swap again.

Every year at QuiltCon they do a charity quilt challenge. The theme this year was "small piecing." While it can be hard to define, let’s say that small piecing would incorporate fabric pieces that are smaller than 1” in either width or length. So you might picture long, skinny strips, or little tiny squares, for example. Well, the Cincinnati Quilt Guild appears to have used little tiny squares to make their pig fly!

It took him about three days to get there through wind and snow, and loss of a laptop, but Ricky finally made it to Barcelona. Here he shares some inspiring photos of the Basilica de la Sagrada Familia.
