A member of TQS submitted a photo to Quiltfolk magazine for their Throwback photo contest, and guess what? It was a winner. Can you figure out which photo it is? It's been on the site before and quilt artist Gail E. Thomas made a quilt from it.

Did you guess who it was?

Army Staff Sgt. Andrew Lee uses quilting as a mechanism to cope with his post-traumatic stress disorder and to honor others by working with Quilts of Valor. He's made a total of 50 quilts (including a phenomenal Iwo Jima Flag quilt) and awarded his 35th Quilt of Valor this week.

He's also a long-distance trucker and does his quilting on the road in his 2019 Volvo VNL 760 with a full-sized ironing board and a sewing machine that fits on a seat.

We found two separate articles about this amazing man.

Let's Play by Adriana Briones Calleja of Madrid makes us want to go back to our childhood and play the games of our past. Her marbles look so real we think we could start playing right now.

Let's Play was on display as part of the Pictorial exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.

Lisa's quilt, Gaudi Star, was inspired by the mosaics of Anton Gaudi in Park Guell in Barcelona. The screen printed design on all the fabric was based on the paving stones also designed by Gaudi. The star motif was then quilted onto the piece and then overpainted with transparent fabric paints to allow the tile designs to show through. It measures 58" x 58". Click here for more info.

She loved them so much that after spending just a few minutes setting them up and styling them, she took one home with her!

She said, "I love this and I am buying it! The hooks are so long that they will hold lots of rulers and tools, and you could even hang a basket or a bag of goodies on it without worrying that it will slip off. I need it!"

Cecilia Koppmann, from Buenos Aries, was a Rising Star in Houston in 2018. Her quilt, Student's Village, was created with the help of 70 young students in her class. At the end of the school year, she asked each one to bring her a little house which she could incorporate into a quilt. You'll love all the different houses and how they illustrate each child's personality.

Lisa lives in Australia which is an extremely dry continent. Most of the population lives around the edges as the center is not really fit for human habitation. However, they still need to eat and the farmers are constantly battling the elements of droughts and floods. This quilt is called Breaking the Drought #2 (as she already made an earlier one) and it depicts the rains finally falling and hopefully sending water to where it is needed.
