Did you know Star Members can search? Search for what you ask? Well, right now you can search for Members and Quilts. For example. If you click on Search, you'll see the option to Find a Member. If you click that, you can then put in all sorts of information and submit it for a search. For example, as of this posting, I was able to enter All Members - in Oregon - who condiser themselves Contemporary Quilters - I found 19! I then searched for all Male members living in TX - and found 8!

Why is this an advantage? Suppose you are planning a trip to Sweden and would like to meet a quilter while you are there. You can search for them on the site - click their profile - email them from their profile page - start a email/pen pal relationship and perhaps meet them when you go for your visit. The site is all about connecting us to each other. The information you provide in your profile is what drives the database. Please take a few minutes to update your profile and post your profile pics.

The Find a Quilt works just the same. I just did a search for quilts in Canada that were Totally Original Designs -there were 8 listed! By clicking on the quilt you can read more about it and see a larger image. But you have to post your quilts and enter accurate information in order for our community to find your quilts. If you see a quilt you like, you can email the member directly from the quilt page and tell them how much you admired their work. What a shot in the arm that will be for them just to get a bit of praise when it is least expected.

The search feature just sort things into more managable groups. So - - start seaching.

By the way - we have 12 members from Sweden!

Singer Sewing Manual from 1949.

"Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think about what you are going to do...never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically. Good results are difficult when indifference predominates.

Never try to sew with a sink full of dirty dishes or beds unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chores, do these first so your mind is free to enjoy your sewing....

When you sew, make yourself as attractive as possible. Put on a clean dress. Keep a little bag full of French chalk near your sewing machine to dust your fingers at intervals.

Have your hair in order, powder and lipstick put on....[If] you are constantly fearful that a visitor will drop in or your husband will come home and you will not look neatly put together, you will not enjoy your sewing as you should."

HOUSTON—January 15, 2007—It is the premiere wearable art event in the quilt and home sewing world, one which showcases the amazing creativity of seasoned artists and designers. The annual Bernina Fashion show brings together the best wearable art garments of the year, and the 43 designers whose creations will be featured in the 2007 edition, Diamond Odyssey, have been announced.

The show features meticulously sewn, quilted, and embellished garments from practical street wear to elaborate fantasy designs. And due to popular demand, there are more ways than ever to see the garments. In addition to the full fashion shows at the upcoming International Quilt Market and Festival this fall, each will feature a rotating daily display of garments. Festival will also feature a “Meet the Designers” section on the show floor.

The title of this year’s show is not just by chance—it celebrates a diamond anniversary. “2007 is the 75th anniversary of the Bernina Brand,” says Gayle Hillert, Senior Product Manager Bernina International/Special Projects Bernina of America. The company is actually 114 years old, but was originally called Fritz Gegauf AG, after the founder. “Bernina has been a family owned company for four generations. In 1932, we produced the first household sewing machine and named that division Bernina after a mountain in the Swiss Alps. And the rest is history."

Diamond Odyssey will premiere to the industry on October 28 at International Quilt Market, and to the public on November 1, at International Quilt Festival. Both shows are held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. The garments will then travel to several other shows and venues, including the spring 2008 International Quilt Festival in Chicago.
The show features professional models, live commentary on the garments’ creation by Jennifer Gigas, Director of Education/Training for Bernina, and top-quality lights, sound, and music. A panel of judges will also vote on the best garment to receive the Bernina Crème de la Crème Award.

Any designer is welcome to submit a garment portfolio for consideration for a Bernina Fashion Show, and a jury of wearable art experts narrows it down to the final list of who will be in the show. For a complete listing of this years Bernina Fashion Show Designers or to learn how to submit a portfolio for consideration, please visit www.quilts.com

We are having a blast in HI, shifting from Island to Island. Perhaps the most stunning view was last night from our stateroom. On the big Island a recent earthquake opened up lava flow. The color was spectacular as the lava flowed off the side of the island into the ocean. When it hit the water, steam rose into the night air. In addition, it released a smell we could detect from the ship. Wow! Mother nature at her best!

Wow, what a whirlwind! Florida was great - they have green stuff called grass - something I've not seen in quite a while! Yes, we are still buried in snow! On the drive home there are piles of it 10' high on the side of the road where it was cleared from the highways weeks ago. We've had snow every weekend for 7 weeks. It started again today. I got home Tuesday and this morning it started snowing. I think we've gotten about 10-12 inches and more on the way.

I've been keeping a spread-sheet on snow totals at our house since last September. As of right now we have had 129.5 inches of it! Our snowyest months are usually March and April, so we can expect that total to go up quite a bit.

I don't mean to bore you with the weather, but for me it is exciting. I love seeing everyhing white and we have needed this for several years. It should do a great deal of good to our area that has been struggeling with the drought. The pups love it! They would rather be outside rooting their noses through the snow than anything else. And since Alex has been getting special attention as a result of sharing her cat - it's time the dog lovers speak up for me. Justin and I have three dogs - Katie (who was Top Dog (first prize) for the 2005 Page-a-day calendar) and the two new pups Wanda and Raisin - littermates. They are all mutts and i adore all of them. I used to breed show Cocker Spaniels, so I"ve had a taste of it all - and I have to admit - I just love dogs! They are not fighting in the photo - they just love to wrestle and play in the snow.
