In the Canada (thank you butterflybeve) , Australia (thank you Maureent), New Zealand and the United States this is the official day we honor our mother's.  We at The Quilt Show want to wish each of you the Happiest day surrounded by family, flowers, breakfast in bed, a new toaster, lots of phone calls, and a promise to help so you get more time to quilt.  Thank you, Mom.  When is Mother's Day celebrated in your country?

Don’t toss those dull rotary blades! Use them around your sewing room for utilitarian tasks such as cutting templates from plastic or mylar.

Tillamook, Oregon, USA - The Latimer Center's collection includes quilts and items from the mid-nineteenth century to the present, quilt blocks quilt templates and fabric samples. There are also clothing, handwoven coverlets, looms, spinning wheels and other quilting and weaving textile tools and implements.

Among the recent acquisitions is a quilt coverlet (pictured above) which was probably started by Harry Tyler, New York (1801-1858 and finished by his son, Elman (1829-1909).  The "Tyler Eagle," a motif designed by Elman, is woven into each corner.

Sometimes inspiration can come from the most unusual places - for instance when I was a little girl we would head up to the mountains to camp at a wonderful little lake - This cloth sample was made from memory. Fast forward - we recently went back to the lake for a party - and guess what? My memory did not fail me. Expose yourself to unusual treats - you never know where your next quilt idea will come from. Perhaps, for me, a little light bulb or cup cake quilt is around the corner! What is the most unusual inspiration you have used for a quilt?

Although not quilt related - my passion for the light bulb intensifies (as my quest for interesting fabric) grows as the search for the party continues.

I got to thinking about the Livermore light bulb and decided to pursue the issue. Part one of two.
