Always on the look out for good stuff - we found treats for EVERYONE! With our Gas guzzling RV - Anita (I need a Road Trip) - choices were tough to make. Guess who bought what -
There is nothing more satisfying than putting the feathers in ink -
In less than a week show 212 will air - Our first TQS road trip! Fortunately, Gregory Case, AKA Photo Man was along to document the journey - During the next few days, we will give CLUES as to where we went- If you have not yet signed up for series Two - do not delay. This is a new video venture for quilters world wide - of which you will not want to miss the fun, games, instruction and information.
Remember to watch over the gallery like a mother watches over her children. Also check out "Southwest Sunrise" in DianeDoodles profile. It uses Altered Photo techniques which is the subject of our current show #211.
The TQS project page is now open (also notice the link in the purple bar). Currently we are featuring projects that are shown on the shows or projects that use techniques demonstrated by our artists. However, we expect this new feature to have a growth in many directions. Some of the projects will be free and some will have a nominal cost. As a special thank you, Star members receive a 50% discount.
Lilo Bowman, our TQS Wizard has adapted two projects from recent shows. The quilt block project by Ricky Tims is from Show 211 and is from a quilt inspired by Ricky's Dad, Richard.
So, if you are stuck at home with no gas or are looking to learn techniques by quilting's top teachers, just take out your stash and have some fun.
I want to reiterate before saying anything again that I'm not a copyright lawyer. However, I do know that you cannot copyright a technique or an idea. Paper piecing is a technique. Strip piecing is a technique. Painting on fabric is a technique. Needle-turn applique is a technique. None of these or any other techniques can be copyrighted. If you come up with a cool idea for folding a piece of fabric, that idea cannot be copyrighted. If you make a set of instructions for your idea or technique, those CAN be copyrighted. However, if someone wants to write their own set of instructions to accomplish the same technique, they can do so without infringing on anyone's copyright.
Take the block of the month design featured on the right. Sue Garman has a written set of instructions and drawings that make that block. These include written instructions on certain techniques and also feature the block design. Those are copyrignted. If you write a set of instructions for needle-turn applique or a set of instructions for doing bias strips it would not infringe on her copyright - as long as you don't use her words and phrases. If, however, you are offering the same design, and write your own instructions to make that design, you WILL have infringed on her copyright as that block design is distinctively hers and you would have copied it.
When thinking about copyright issues, remember its the designs or the written words that are protected under copyright laws - not the ideas and methods.

In my class room we are discovering how easy it is to compose quilting designs, enter here. We are currently learning how fun it is to draw cables. Also, I have discussed the basic rules to determine what to use where. My dear friend Wendy Grande was over to help me with a stitching situation and in exchange I am helping her with a feather situation. John urged me to pick up the camera and document the process. You might be familiar with Wendy's work from a past blog - November 4th, 2007. Her work is fabulous and I couldn't wait to get my hands on her quilt top. This is part one of four -
We love our sponsors and appreciate how hard they work on a daily basis. Today we were having a multiple person phone conference with Superior Threads, when Bob The Thread Guy had to leave for a VERY important Friday meeting. Apparently, this meeting goes for two hours - and it is a must attend for all. We were so greatful that Bob sent us this link to this VERY IMPORTANT TOP SECRET weekly gathering.
