Seasonal Sisters
Many of you watched when Annette Hendricks (USA), Gail Thomas (Canada), and Helen Godden (Australia) began working on this quilt here at Tims Art Quilt Studio in La Veta this past March. I´ve just received these photos from Annette with the message, "It´s Finished!" She added, "The piece ended up to be 99” x 55”…..definitely the largest one I’ve ever worked on….and was it ever exhausting!" Congratulations to these three very creative and very determined quilt artists!

Skagway Moonrise, by Ricky Tims
I´ve just learned that there are four spots left for on my 15-day tour to South America in February 2009. We´ll be heading first to the Galapagos Islands, then to Machu Picchu, then to the Amazon River. This trip is not a sewing cruise, but rather a creative development cruise. Most of our time will be spent enjoying the mysteries of these ancient places, but our time together will focus on creative development. The immediate results will be realized by the way you use your camera to take photos. As quilters, you´ll undoubtedly take that information and translate it to your quilting design when you return home.
As an example, the image above, Skagway Moonrise, is a montage of four photos that I took while on my Alaskan cruise in 2005. It represents images reflected in a window, a plank of wood, and a hard, round, ping pong ball sort of object that was embedded in asphalt. In my creativity lectures, you´ll learn to see the world around you with new eyes.
For many, this is the trip of a lifetime. Jim West, our tour director and founder of Sew Many Places, has limited the trip to only 40 travelers, so the event will be more intimate than most typical theme-based cruises. This past week was a whirlwind tour of Bernina Dealers and airports - First I was in Oklahoma City, then Carmel IN and last but not least Ann Arbor. In all cases I was with family, both blood line and Bernina family! What was so great, like extra gold in the treasure chest, was that John and I got to celebrate my cousin´s 60th birthday in Ann Arbor - a pirates gathering complete with white fish and poppy seed cake!

This is from Alex´s book Kids Start Quilting. Many years ago she held a two day class and the kids ranged from ages 8 to 12 (I remember they ALL had a GREAT time!). The twelve year old gal is now a senior in college! This quilt is actually Alex´s class sample - uh oh - I hear the garage door, she must be home. Time to get the quilts back in their places! I hope you liked this tour. There are a lot of quilts left.

This quilt is in Alex´s book - Fabric Shopping. The title of the quilt is (big surprise) Baskets. The blocks are 6" finished and the colors were chosen around the focus fabric used in the border. The fabric was designed by one of Alex´s favorite designers, Jennifer Sampou. Coming tomorrow a sampler from Kids Start Quilting.

Series Two comes to a close with part 2 of the TQS Road Trip. The show begins on day two of our three day trip. The RV, "Anita Roadtrip," is exchanged for a "regular car" when Ricky takes the lead and directs Alex to the Cotton Patch in Lafayette, CA. Alex and Ricky have a race to select coordinating fabrics and discuss the reasons why they made their selections. The final stop of the trip is in the home of two very well-known quilting sisters. This star quilt is done in jewel colors with a white background rather than black. Alex´s friend, Kris Volker, quilted it and added the perle cotton fringe to the cactus. I like the use of the Cactus fabric because the stars look sharp as thorns. This is from Alex´s book "Simply Stars".
