The year 2008 has been VERY productive for my dad. Honestly, we have lost count as to how many quilts he has pieced this year - perhaps 8 or 10. Justin and I are en route home from Quilt Festival in Houston and stopped by to visit with the folks before completing the drive to Colorado tomorrow - to VOTE!

This photo shows dad working on another Papaw's Choice quilt. If you like it, you can make it - the pattern can be downloaded here. Dad turns 82 on November 25th.

Thanks to mom for a great meal and her trademark Banana Pudding - with no bananas. You see, we've learned that the bananas turn so quickly and the wafers get soft - so the bananas and wafers are added when served. MMMMMmmmmm.

Congratulations to Janet Fogg for an Honorable Mention at the Houston IQA Show.  She also won a first place ribbon at PIQF.  To see that quilt go to the October 17 blog.

Alex and I just got home, so I will be compiling our pictures and getting up several a day through the week.  Come back and see a sampling of the great quilts.

Dear Alex,

(First I promise to get you a new camera.)  I am very proud of you.  From the first time I saw you I was taken with your energy and enthusiasm and knew that I wanted to be a part of it.  You have always had the mission to educate, inspire, entertain and grow the quilting community.  With over 12 books, 494 "Simply Quilt" episodes, 80+ podcasts, and 52+ Quilt Shows, you have always sought to bring people the opportunity to realize their potential and grow their own love of quilting.  Your love of quilting is infectious, but its your love of quilters that that makes people trust you.  As you read the wonderful comments on the earlier blog let me add mine, Thank you for allowing me to join you on the journey.

Capt'n John

The Quilters Hall of Fame (TQHF) is pleased to announce the selection of Merikay Waldvogel of Knoxville, TN as the 39th honoree to be inducted into the Quilters Hall of Fame, July 2009.

One of the key players in the late 20th century quilt history revival, Waldvogel has served on the board of directors of both the American Quilt Study Group (AQSG) and the Alliance for American Quilts (AAQ). She has been a key player in building The Alliance's online Quilt Index and has also taken key roles in the Boxes Under the Bed and Quilt Treasures programs that are major contributions of the Alliance to the study of American cultural history.  Waldvogel is a fellow of the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she has worked with graduate students and has built an important database of quilt kits. Her research into quilt history has led her to author several books and magazine articles.  She also lectures frequently to quilt guilds, historical societies and museums as a nationally known quilt authority.

Merikay Waldvogel's induction celebration will take place July 16-19, 2009 at the Quilters Hall of Fame, located in Marion, IN.  For more information on how you can join the celebration, click here or send a postcard or letter to CELEBRATION 2009, PO Box 681, Marion, IN  46952.

Congratulations Merikay from all of us at The Quilt Show!
