This past week I have been hosting a back to back retreat in my own stomping ground - Livermore. This gathering started 8 years ago because of a message board on my personal website www.alexandersonquilts.com (although the site is active, the message board is no longer around). I believe there were about twenty five people in the first year, and now we have grown to two sessions, each with 38 folks. This year the theme was scrap quilts, along with itty bitty mini classes taught by Paula Reid and myself. The idea of the retreat is to gather with like minded people and basically just have fun doing what we do - and that is quilt! Over the next few days, I will post images for you to see. Check out this quilt that Holly knocked out using my Accuquilt!

Dear members:

It has been brought to our attention by several TQS members that the Baked Potato Bag featured in the e-Newsletter dated November 18, 2008 could cause a fire in the microwave after repeated use.  While we loved the idea and crafty nature of this bag,  it is always safety first.  We have removed this pattern.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Hey everybody! These are sad times in La Veta. The Mountain Valley Quilt Shop closed this week. In this case, it was not due to economic problems, but the owner's husband left retirement and took a job in another state - so she closed to move to be with him. However, the emptiness here reminds me about how vital quilt shops are to quilters all over the world. What would we do without them? So, when you can, support your local quilt shop. Tell the owner and workers how much it means to you that you have them there for supplies and support!

Oh - and if you are looking to move to La Veta - there's now a great location to open a quilt shop that really did amazingly well in this little town.

(TQS Member KnottyQuilter's transformation changed lives)

Read a good story lately?  We have over 70 stories right here in the TQS "Stories" section you can read without having to leave your house!  Every quilter has a story.  And there is always a story behind every quilt.  Like this story we found from TQS Member KnottyQuilter called "Making a Difference".  She and a group of quilters changed the lives of children and their families by transforming a room at a Children's Medical "home-away-from-home".  "We walked away that day feeling blessed to have the opportunity to make a difference," she said.  To read her story, click here.

We want to hear your story.  To post yours, go to "Stories" in the purple bar and then choose "submit a story for consideration".  Happy Reading!

The TQS website has grown far beyond our initial vision. It has become a world-wide quilt guild and it is a vast playground for quilters of all types. We will continue to bring new features to the site. However, with so many new members now on board, we want you to share what your favorite links are (quilt gallery, member blogs, forum, BOM, etc.) and why. Your input just might lead someone to an area they have not explored. So - - - What is your favorite place on TQS? Raise your hand and speak up now.

Here is a closer look at the Quilts shown behind Liuxin Newman.  Liuxin explains how she kept looking for better techniques so she could impress the judges at shows.  She had to become more skillful.  Be sure to watch the show and hear her story.  Just click on Liuxin in the banner on the right border.

Heather Purcell of Superior Threads just sent me this picture of the BOM quilt for 2009.  It is a great picture but still does not do justice to the original.  So how is Sue going to cut this into 12 monthly pieces?

Be ready for a lot of learning and fun.  Also, check the purple bar and click on Show and Tell  and then click on "BOM Only".   There you will see the BOMs for 2008 and 2009 set up. We have just set up this part of the site and people are starting to put up their pictures.  Try out the sorting by selecting just one BOM month.   Go over and take a look.
