"Fabric from Bangkok----AnnetteS
8 days ago I was in Bangkok on holiday. I purchased a selection of Thai silk, some cotton fabric and batik, plus two wonderful Japanese bag books. The wallet has been made from the fabric, using a pattern from Bags and interior goods book. I wanted to challenge myself to use fabric that I would normally avoid. The big laugh was on me as all my "silk" is man made material. Threads burn into a melted glob. I do not read Japanese, but the books are easy to follow."

AnnetteS is eligible to win our Quilting Goodie bag.  She uploaded a picture of her last quilting purchase into Show & Tell.  Go to the purple bar and click on "Show & Tell".  Then upload a picture of your last quilting purchase by midnight tonight.  You could win a bag similar to what our studio audience won last week.

Saturday was International Quilt Day! Of course you say!!! So how did you celebrate? What did you do? Do tell...... As for myself, I worked hours on the new Bernina 830 - OMGOSH it is spectacular! The space under the arm coupled with so many new features, I found myself drooling without even knowing it! The actual quilt itself is a remake of Holiday Lights - this time with jazzy black background prints coupled with my new line Whisperings (after this next weekend Super Seminar I will have some towers to sell, 35 fat quarters in all - keep posted). To see the original pattern go here. The Pattern was inspired from the quilt on the left hand side. This quilt is a classic that seems to keep reemerging.

On National Quilt Day we recommend that you watch these segments of Pat Ferrero's peek into the lives & art of 7 quilters.  This film, made in 1981, was one of the first peeks into the growing resurgence of quilting.  Seven quilters are profiled in the film and 3 are featured in this sample tape.  One of the quilters (not shown in the samples selected) is Lucy Hilty.  This is the teacher that influenced Alex as she learned to draw quilting designs.  Alex teaches some of the techniques that she learned in her TQS Classroom, which is included with your guild membership dues.  Click Here for the Classroom.

When you click on the picture to see 3 of the segments, be sure to scroll down and see all the awards ithe film won.  Check out all the fabrics!!

  A Touch of Ireland

Denise Labadie, award-winning quilt maker uses her profound love of the Irish landscape and ancient megalithic stones as a theme that is central to her quilting. To best express the moods and textures inherent in her complex landscapes, Denise uses a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and threads. She demonstrates how she achieves the effect of realistic looking “fabric stones.” Show includes a visit from Cheryl, The Quilt Show’s Gizmo Girl and a piano performance of Danny Boy by Ricky.

As our treat show 106 is open to everyone on March 17 & 18 as a Saint Patrick's Day treat.  Watch as Denise makes the stones on Ireland come alive on her quilts.
