"Ross Palmer Beecher's eighth one-person exhibition at the Greg Kucera Gallery included new work inspired by the American folk-art traditions of quilting, flag-making, bricolage and primitive portraiture. Beecher is not a "Folk" artist, but she is endlessly fascinated by the many forms it can take, the contexts surrounding its production, and the complete devotion to a given craft that Folk artists bring to their work. Beecher filters these traditions in making her contemporary objects. Beecher embraces her New England roots while her contemporary observations of the world are revealed through a wide variety of political and topical themes executed in her own peculiar brand of Yankee ingenuity."
Here is the first of several Slideshows on the Chicago Festival Quilts. I recommend that after the show starts, click on the pause button and flip through the slides manually. That way you can read the information or linger on a closeup. Enjoy and come back for more on Sunday (maybe Saturday, but we are at a Ricky Tims Super Seminar in Fredrick, Maryland).
This month TQS BOM designer Sue Garman keeps you on track by continuing to make border stars and sawtooth stars. Don't get discouraged once all of the elements of this stunning quilt come together, you will see that it was worth it.
To learn more about the Stars for a New Day Block of the month and Sue Garman click here. Be sure to watch the corresponding instructional video by clicking here. And as always, the BOM and video lessons are free to all current TQS Star members.
How Fun is This!! (This weekend we will have a Weekend Fun Smilebox show of Chicago Festival.)
Pam Holland, the traveling quilter, recently visited Israel. She brings us a collection of images and views through quilts, textiles, pottery, jewelry and clothing. As usual she sees designs and colors all around her. And now you will see them too.
Series 1 is Open Again! We retired the shows because of broadband space, but we have purchased more space. Revisit our favorite video star, Pam Holland in Show #110. See the courageous Mary Fisher and her fight against AIDS in Show #108. Perfect the piping techniques of our "Piping Hottie" Susan Cleveland in Show #109.
If you have already purchased Series 1, you can see these episodes again. If you have missed Series 1, they are new to you! Click here to go to our online library to purchase these past Series 1 episodes. Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the convenience of your online library.
