In April 2009, a quilt show was held at the El Pueblo Quilt Museum. The El Pueblo Museum in partnership with the Pride City Quilt Guild combined to create an exhibit of quilts created by Southern Colorado quilters. It was a chance for quilters from small communities to share their work.  Down the street was the Quilt and Stitch Expo with 2,000 in attendance and over 57 vendors. Don't worry if you missed it, a new show will take place March 31-April 2, 2011 and the Quilt and Stitch Expo will take place April 1-2, 2011.

We know it's May, but it's not to late to start working on the 2010 Applique BOM - Hugs & Kisses by Sue Garman.  In fact, now with Alex's classes, it's the perfect time.

Raindrops on HostasRuth picked our TQS Quilt of the Week, presented by Mirkwood.  It is titled, Raindrops on Hostas.

Mirkwood used Beth Wheeler's technique to create the quilt after her friend Rose took the photo.

It is 14" x 18" and embellished with tiny crystals.

This is just one of over 15,000 quilts in the TQS Quilt Gallery.  Click on over a take a peek at a few more by our fabulous members.

DAR MuseumA new exhibit as opened at the DAR Museum in Washington D.C.  It is called Honoring Lafayette: Contemporary Quilts from France and America.  The exhibit runs from April 16 - September 4, 2010.

To celebrate the 250th birthday of the Marquis de Lafayette, the city of Lafayette, Louisiana, chose quilters from the US, Canada, Belgium, and France to make pieces that honored the Marquis de Lafayette.  These quilts are now at the DAR museum.

Many of the quilts incorporate traditional elements such as the fleur de lys motif and the American eagle. There is a Mariner's Compass quilt entitled, "When Compasses Collide" which suggests Lafayette's voyages between France and America.

Also included in the exhibit are items that were made or saved to remember Lafayette's return to the US in 1820, such as shoes that were saved just because someone danced at a ball honoring him, towels and glasses that he supposedly used, and many items containing his portrait.  During his time, Lafayette was a true celebrity.

When you think about it, flags are just quilts without the quilting.  They have colors, shapes, and some have truly creative design features.

Because TQS is a global community, we thought it would be fun to see if you can guess the flags from these different countries.  Take yourself on a trip around the world and play Guess the Flag. My best score was 80 points (Capt'n John).

Hint: Watch for the correct answer when you get it wrong.  That flag may come up later.

Start by answering the current question:

Whenever a guest artist joins Ricky and Alex for a taping of The Quilt Show, they are asked to bring along a quilt block that represents their work. Sometimes it is very easy to identify who made the blocks, sometimes, not so easy.

Alex is taking the latest set of blocks and putting them together into a striking, graphic quilt. You'll get a chance to see blocks by guests from some of the earliest shows and a peek at some of the upcoming guests as well.

To make it a little bit more exciting, we've left 6 blocks without a name. (Yes we missed 2 blocks, and they will be shown with the answers on Monday.)  They are labelled Guess Number 1 through Guess Number 6. Submit a comment and tell us if you know who made those blocks. Have fun!
