Sisters ShowKnoxvilleSummertime is a very busy time in the quilting world.  There are an abundance of local and national quilt shows right outside your door.  (And if you don't believe us, look here under FEATURES/EVENTS.)  This week is the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in Sisters, Oregon and is where Ricky, Alex, John, and Justin will be hanging out.  And then Alex is off to the AQS Show in Knoxville, TN.

Do you have a favorite quilt show, local or national, that is always on your must-see list every summer?  Do you make your vacation plans around that show?  Is it a small local show that is truly a treasure?  Or do you treasure the hustle and bustle of a larger show?  Submit a comment and let TQS know where you like to go.

Here's the good news.  You can change your color (style) in the forum.  Right now we just have one color change, but soon we will have more.

Here's the bad news.  When you change the style it might think you have just started and haven't read any posts yet.  If this happens, you can reset it to think you have read them all by clicking the "Mark forums read" on the upper right hand side.

So, if you want to see a new style, click the little arrow next to "Select a Style" and change to Tara.  We will have to learn the new icons together.

Growing our kids up we had an annual 4th of July party where families vied to be the best patriot in the block. The winner was decided by attire, food, games and spirit. As the kids grew older and moved on with their lives (and we too moved) this wonderful tradition sadly went by the way side. Adair decided this was the year to start it up again, and did we ever! Ages ranged from 2 years old to 85 - it is safe to say a good time was had by all, I am no longer 25 and everyone is already planning for next year. For those of you who had a three day weekend, how did it play out for you?

Hello Quilting Campers.  This week's project is something you probably want to get a better handle on.  Laundry is a fact of life – and Laundromats are something most college students have to live with. Check out this fun and easy laundry bag from Olfa that may help to make the chore a little easier for your favorite grad – if nothing else, it will remind them that you are thinking of them on laundry day.

Be sure to check out each week's project on our Projects page
here.   Share your creative versions of any of our projects in Show and Tell here.

Nancy Brown portrays Alex and myself greeting you each day from inside your laptop!

The next TQS episode posts tomorrow featuring Nancy Brown and her amazing animal-themed quilts. However, in addition to her talent as a quilter, she is also a water color and caricature artist. She painted two of the above images and gave one to each Alex and myself. She also did a series of watercolors 10 years ago following my quadruple heart bypass surgery. They are a riot! See those on my website here.

Today's the day we celebrate Independence Day in America. TQS took a peek into the Quilt Gallery and came up with a few red, white, and blue beauties for your viewing pleasure. And remember, if you want additional information about a quilt, you can do a search from the HELP tab on the navigation bar on the name of the quilt or the member's name to find out more.

We'd like to hear from you around the world. Do you celebrate an Independence Day in your country? Do you celebrate a day of National pride? Share your celebrations with TQS by submitting a comment and let us know how your country get's its party on!

Ferret is an award-winning quilter from the UK. On May 1st, her birthday, we featured Ferret in a video. Well, a lot has happened since then. She took top prizes at both, Quilts UK Malvern 2010, and the National Quilt Championships Sandown 2010. At Malvern, her quilt Greek Fossils, took 1st place - longarm quilting, 2nd place - large wallhanging, and Judge's Choice.

Here's what she has to say about Greek Fossils: "It's a wholecloth on a piece of Heide Stoll-Weber hand dyed fabric. There are only two colours of thread on it, although the fabric makes it look like there are more. As always, the quilting is all hand guided. I marked the rough outlines of where I wanted the borders and the centre design to go, and filled the rest in freehand. It was initially made as a test piece to see if the feather technique looked any good, but my boyfriend convinced me that it was good enough to enter into shows."
