The Show Must Go On

As you may have heard, we lost Irwin Bear on Saturday.  He was a great leader, mentor and friend to many, many people, and he will be sorely missed.
He wants to be remembered with joy, and he was adamant to the last that we should continue to move ahead with P&B and that The Show Must Go On.  It is in honor of him that we forge ahead and prepare for Market.

3185_inbox_on_my_computer.jpgThirty gorgeous little quilts to collect or give!
The AAQ's annual fundraising auction of 16"x16" quilts donated by artists from all over the US and Canada (including members of TQS) begins tonight on eBay.com, and will continue through December 6 with four one-week auctions. During the auction week go to the eBay website and search keyword "Alliance for American Quilts." All of the quilts for that auction week will be displayed and all registered eBay users can enter a bid (please note: if you search anytime before or after the auction dates, the quilts will not be viewable).

Don't miss this opportunity to pick out special gifts for the holidays or add to your own quilt collection. Click here to view all 118 quilts and read complete auction information. All proceeds support the Alliance for American Quilts, a national nonprofit organization documenting, preserving and sharing the rich history of quilts and quiltmakers.

Join us in Episode 708 as Alex and Ricky teach you how to “plant your fabric stash with interest” using colorful window boxes from Alden Lane Nursery.  Florals take the place of fabrics as they demonstrate the concept of visual texture, and how mixing the patterns and print scale in the fabrics you choose can add interest and personality to your quilts. Then, TQS welcomes quilt artist Marcia Stein, who talks about developing a personal style, and demonstrates how she builds a quilt based on a photograph. Lots of juicy details here, including “the skinny” on needles, thread weight and color, stitch length, and Marcia’s virtually invisible, super-tiny zigzag, machine-appliqué technique. The Pacific International Quilt Festival, www.quiltfest.com, awards over 40 prizes in many different categories. Here are just a few of those award-winning quilts, you'll recognize some familiar names and be surprised by some new ones. Our very own TQS member, Sherry Reynolds, wyomingquilter, took home one of the top awards, along with Viewer's Choice. One of the best things about Sherry's quilts is that she quilts them on her 20-year old Bernina.
