One of the best things about the Houston show are the amazing quilts they receive from around the world for special categories.  Here is an example from last year just to whet your appetite for this year.

Whenever you travel, you find that you forgot something.  Sometimes you can replace it at an office supply store or a Target.  Sometimes you can't.  I mentioned that I forgot to bring my business cards and Richard Kennair told me his story.

He runs akonye kena a company that sells products made by young adults they have trained in Uganda.  The company name means "I will help myself". This is a non profit trying to make a difference.

A mistake was made, and his product was not shipped to Houston.  He was busy faxing to get it sent overnight for a fee of $4000.  While everyone else had almost finished their booths with quilts and product and decorations, Richards booth looks like this:

I don't know what booth he will be at for Festival, but everyone who can needs to visit him and tell him that TheQuiltShow.com sent you. I'll get you some more pictures when things arrive.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative hopes for several Home Runs in the  World Series Quilt Challenge. Eight heavy hitters in the quilting world, including our own RICKY TIMS, created 16" x 16" quilts to fight Alzheimer's. These quilts will be up for grabs in an online auction November 1-10, 2010 at www.AlzQuilts.org.

Click here to see the auction and read the stories behind the quilts. The team which raises the most money will be declared the Champions. The quilter whose quilt raises the most money will win the MVP award.

TQS wants RICKY to be MVP, you can click here to ROOT for RICKY for as little as $1.00.  By rooting for RICKY, you can make a donation without bidding on his quilt. It's a way to make a donation to the AAQI and to cheer on your favorite player (RICKY TIMS). The money collected from this WILL be counted as part of the total dollar amount raised by each player in their league.

RICKY'S quilt, Rhapsody for Remembering, features his original Rhapsody genre of medallion quilts that feature flowing curves and applique in mirrored and reversed design.  A TQS member could own this quilt. The online auction of these eight spectacular quilts doesn’t begin until November 1 and continues to November 10th, but you can start saving your pennies today and don't forget to click here to ROOT for RICKY right away! Go TEAM RICKY!

Paper piecing works wonders when when your goal is to achieve perfect points; however, the process can be frustrating when you sew a fabric of the wrong color in the wrong position. Avoid "reverse stitching" by coding your master pattern with colored pencils or the written word. Color coding allows you to relax, enjoy, and stitch with confidence. If you have a great tip to share, send it to us here.
