Quilters aren't the only ones who get a little obsessed about what we do.

Animated short film "The Last Knit" is directed by Laura Neuvonen who works as an animator at the animation studio Anima Vitae. The short movie has been screened at numerous film festivals and won many awards.

Binding Stitch Tip - Springblossom Quilt Laura Wasilowski

The fused binding is a fast and easy way to bind your next wall quilt. But do you know how to dress it up even more? Laura Wasilowski shows you a way to finish your quilt and how to add another decorative element to your design.

Laura's favorite decorative stitch on her BERNINA 750 QE is the lucky number 1330. This blanket stitch finishes the fused binding perfectly.

This quilt has been a winner in the past and it's no surprise that it has won again.

Congratulations to Jan Hutchison and Gail Stepanek! Their quilt, Stars on Mars, won Best of Show in the 10-category juried and judged quilt contest. Stars on Mars was one of more than 500 beautifully crafted quilts on display at the Wisconsin Public Television Quilt Expo last week.

Stars on Mars was also Best of Show at AQS QuiltWeek Lancaster in 2015. Watch the video to get a closer look and learn from one of the winners as she discusses the design, sewing, and quilting processes she used to create this stunning beauty.

This quilt may seem straight forward in its design, but quilter M-R Charbonneau packs a lot of meaning into this wonderful maple leaf quilt through color and stitching.

M-R writes in the blog Quilt Matters:

I made We the North Since 1867 to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary next year.  Yeah, I know I'm a little early to be doing a sesquicentennial quilt, but you gotta do what you gotta do. I love to travel and experience other countries and cultures, but I love coming home too. I feel pretty lucky to be born in this cool country so I wanted to make something to celebrate it.

Don't let the simple design fool you; it has a lot of meaning behind it (at least for me). It has 13 values of red (mostly Konas) for the 10 provinces and three territories.

Allie writes, "Every year I make a quilt for the Alliance’s fundraising contest. I love doing this for so many reasons, but the one I want to share with you is how important this is for me as a quiltmaker. I get to play with new ideas on a small scale and try new techniques as I think about each year’s theme…"

"But wait a minute!  All my quilts have been about gardens! That being the case, please allow me to escort you on a garden tour, to show you how these contest quilts themselves have “grown” each year. I want you to see all the techniques I’ve discovered along the way and incorporated into my subsequent work."

Click on "Learn More" and Allie will walk you through her process for creating these lovely garden quilts.

SAQA’s 2016 Benefit Auction will take place from September 16 through October 9th, 2016. Don’t miss your chance to bid on 437 beautiful and unique art quilts created by SAQA members. This is SAQA’s signature fundraising event - proceeds from the auction help increase the recognition for art quilts and the artists who make them while supporting SAQA’s exhibition programs, publications, and education outreach.

The auction will kick-off at 2pm EDT on September 16 with Diamond Day bidding - an early bird opportunity to buy ANY quilt for $1000.  The 12" x 12" Auction Quilts are then divided up into three sections for bidding purposes. Each week, a different section of quilts will be available for bidding, starting at $750 and further reduced throughout the week until the final price reaches $100.

Visit www.saqa.com/auction or contact them at auction@saqa.com for more details.

Every state has their shining quilt star and Oregon is no exception. Tucked in the North East corner of the state is Colleen Blackwood, her husband Jeff, and a whole bunch of 4 legged family members. If Colleen isn't quilting, she is outside!

Colleen has a long history with the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and the Stitchin' Post Quilter's Affair. As a Quilt Instructor she has taught at the Quilter's Affair for many years and is a much sought after instructor throughout the state and beyond. Her husband Jeff, chief household wrangler while she is teaching, is a master woodworker. The creative juices in this household are overflowing. I have found that quilters, although passionate about quilting, tend to have a variety of spokes in their creative wheels. This household is filled with finely crafted wood furniture, jars of canned tomatoes, turkeys...chickens...and a garden that would be the envy of many! Holy Moley is it a busy place. On the cerebral side she is a poet and we are blessed every year at the Quilter's Affair to hear one of her poems which are filled with thought provoking, kind, and loving prose.

One of my favorite quilts by Colleen is Star Crossed Lovers. The talent in this one person is amazing and she wants to share it...so, if you are pondering about which class to take at the 2017 Quilter's Affair you can't go wrong by signing up for her classes. Or maybe have your local quilt shop give her a jingle and see if she'll head your way and spread the quilting and poetic wealth.

Enjoy the slide show and then head over to Quilt Roadies to watch the video interview with this amazing woman!
