And now for something completely different, since quilters are versatile, a sleeveless vest that converts into a table runner made entirely out of...labels! Sue Gill's What's in a Label? won Most Innovative Design in the Wearable Art Competition and was featured in the Vest, Coat, Jacket category at PIQF 2019. Inspired "by a garment label with the name '01-01-01'" that she saved amongst many other labels, "the vest is made by machine sewing labels on a cotton backing in tabard style", creating that avant-garde look that designers are always clamoring for.

What's in a Label? by Sue Gill of Burlingane, California won Most Innovative Design in the Wearable Art Competition and was featured in the Vest, Coat, Jacket category at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.

Which kind of quilter are you? Vote below.

This is the great debate. Do you prewash your fabric or don't you? OR, does it depend on how the fabric is being used, or what type of fabric it is?

Nancy Arseneault created a spectacular quilt all because her husband wanted a tattoo. The Quilt With The Dragon Tattoo (74" x 55") received a first place ribbon at Road to California as well as an Honorable Mention in the Art-Whimsical category at Houston.

Artist Statement“A collaboration with tattoo artist Stephanie Noell Davis yielded a wonderful image of a Chinese dragon containing my favorite quilt motifs: feathers, spirals, and dots. I adapted her line drawing, adding lots of color. The interior border, sashiko stitching, and quilting designs are all from traditional Japanese stitchery.” (Design inspired by a drawing by Davis)

Learn how to add quilting design to your quilt from Nancy in Show 2802: Quilting Design Masterclass.

Star Members can watch Nancy and Lois Podolny in Show 1907: Machine Quilting Friends.

TQS continues its feature of quilts exhibited in 2020 at QuiltCon as part of The Quilts of Victoria Findlay Wolfe exhibit. The exhibit is described as:

"Purposeful play is a deliberate free-form practice with one goal in mind: to ultimately improve the outcome of the finished product while capturing a thought, emotion, or technique. Always fascinated by color, pattern, and quilters who came before us, Victoria Findlay Wolfe found her life's true joy in exploring her grandmother's quiltmaking as a starting point.

Her diverse and exciting body of work stirs quilters worldwide to dig deeper, take risks, and experiment with fabric. This retrospective exhibit features a selection of Findlay Wolfe's inspiring quilts and the stories behind them."

Please enjoy Victoria's eighteenth quilt from the exhibition.
