And now for something completely different, since quilters are versatile, a sleeveless vest that converts into a table runner made entirely out of...labels! Sue Gill's What's in a Label? won Most Innovative Design in the Wearable Art Competition and was featured in the Vest, Coat, Jacket category at PIQF 2019. Inspired "by a garment label with the name '01-01-01'" that she saved amongst many other labels, "the vest is made by machine sewing labels on a cotton backing in tabard style", creating that avant-garde look that designers are always clamoring for.

What's in a Label? by Sue Gill of Burlingane, California won Most Innovative Design in the Wearable Art Competition and was featured in the Vest, Coat, Jacket category at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.

For years I made wall hangings out of men's ties for family and friends. I had (and still do) hundreds of beautiful ties. As I was unsewing them, I saved the labels. Several years ago when we relocated to another state, I had to downsize, so I threw them away. Geeze, I wish I would have saved them.

Clever!! Fun looking at all the labels, some are recognizable, others not. Like thinking about what garments they came from.

Just like when I was at Art college! It’s Art because I say so.
