The Month 8 Legacy Quilt Club block from Ricky is Windmill.

This month we highlight Laura Ingalls Wilder's 1894 journal when she, Almanzo, and Rose moved by covered wagon from burned-out South Dakota to the "Land of the Big Red Apple" in southwest Missouri. The little journal she kept was published just a few short years after she died in 1957 and is a fascinating account of sorrow and loss, hope and determination to rise above hard circumstances. Here is her observant eye along the trail: "We watered the teams at a public well with windmill, by the side of the road. The water is good all through McCook County [SD]. Wells are 120 feet deep on the average and nearly every well has a windmill.  This is a good county." ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder, On the Way Home; the Diary of a trip from South Dakota to Mansfield, Missouri, in 1894, July 20 entry. Here is the latest information regarding the Houston Quilt Festival - as of 8/30/2017:

Dear Friends of Quilt Festival,
 
First, we would like to think all who have sent messages of support to us in response to the devastating flooding taking place in our home city of Houston. We are happy to report that all of our staff is safe, and that our office did not suffer any damages.

Many others have not been so lucky, and we ask that you keep Houston and all areas that have been devastated by Hurricane Harvey in your thoughts, and, if possible, consider making a contribution toward organizations involved in the ongoing relief efforts.
 
We have also heard from many people asking whether they should cancel their plans to attend this year’s International Quilt Festival in Houston. We want to assure you that there is no reason to cancel any travel plans, as the show is still scheduled to go on.
 
The show is still over two months away, and we have full confidence that our city will bounce back quickly, as it has always done. Also, neither the George R. Brown Convention Center nor the Downtown Houston hotels were damaged in the flooding.
 
At this time, our office remains closed, and will until it is safe for our staff to return to work. We will post an announcement to our website and social media when the office reopens. In the meantime, we ask that you be patient in receiving a response to any calls or emails.
 
Once again, Quilt Festival in Houston is still scheduled to take place November 2-5 at the George R. Brown Convention Center. We hope you will plan to be there to support our amazing city and enjoy the show!

One more note...those who submitted quilts for our Houston shows are (understandably) concerned about their whereabouts. Please be assured that all of the quilts are in a secure and DRY location. This is always a top priority for us, and we take every possible measure to ensure their safety!

One of the true quilting masters, the spatial illusions in Libby's quilts have intrigued and delighted audiences around the world. The National Quilt Museum has 16 of her amazing quilts in this once-in-a-lifetime must-see exhibit. It runs from July 14 - October 17, 2017 in Paducah.

Crossing borders and cultures with quilts around the globe.

TheQuiltShow.com is getting so close to reaching our goal of 300 IMQE Partners! We have 276 IMQE Partners – 24 Partners away from our goal of 300 partners. We do have 3 United States quilters waiting for International partners.    

Internationally, the United Kingdom now leads with 55 quilters, followed closely by Germany with 51 quilters. Italy now has 49 quilters and Canada is holding at 43 quilters. There are 28 Aussies and 4 Kiwis.

Recently, Quilters waiting for International Partners were asked, “Why did you sign up for the International Miniature Quilt Exchange?”

I love meeting with people from other countries and learning about their customs.  I want to share my love of quilting with them and become a great pen pal.  ~Normajeangilke
