Frieda Anderson is known for many styles, but fusing is at the top of her list. So, we had a difficult time trying to find her 1st Place Quilt in the Appliqué section. BUT, we discovered it had won in Innovative Piecing. Take a look below. It is hard to tell it is pieced, isn't it? Frieda tells Alex the truth about her quilt, Unfurling, in a short video below the pictures.

Dawn of the New Day was made for the invitational United We Quilt Exhibit curated by the American Quilter's Society to memorialize 9/11. Gail chose to represent the tragedy in a figurative way. Click here to learn more about the quilt.

Welcome back to the Table Glitz Series from Jen at Shabby Fabrics. Each month they show you a simple and festive way to decorate your table! This month, they are teaching you how to make ornament placemats and evergreen tree coasters!

These clean modern coasters represent every side of the dreidel.

In case you aren't familiar with it, the dreidel is a small spinning top with 4 sides and each side has a hebrew letter on it. You spin the top and whatever letter it falls on determines how many pieces of delicious chocolate coins (called "gelt") you win or loose.

The wool felt they are made out of is thick enough to also be used as a trivet and they are backed in rich shades of blue. This fun holiday project will, in addition to protecting your table, make a pretty accent to your Hanukkah party.

really fun dreidel game.

Gail was inspired by TQS to create Thunderbirds Rising.

She writes, When Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson asked my to be on The Quilt Show, I immediately knew that I wanted to create something special for the show.

This medallion style quilt features new techniques, and measures 58″ x 58″, the perfect size for a dramatic wall quilt.  I have long been fascinated by our feathered friends and, living in the Southwest, the Thunderbird design is prominent in various art forms.  And, I have a new passion for checkerboard designs with their strong graphics in contrasting colors.

The pattern is available for sale on her website, click here.

Clayton Maxwell went on a months-long quest and, while not crafty, gained a serious respect for quilters while doing her research. Having learned about the 10 million quilters out in the world she decided to explore the magnitude of the quilting phenomenon in this article for "Texas Highways" magazine.

She learns about the Briscoe Center, The Texas Quilt Museum, and the more than 150 guilds in Texas alone. She also talks to Karey Bresenhan, a fifth-generation Texas quilter and founder of the Houston International Quilt Festival.

Not every quilt wins an award at the big shows. They are crowded with amazing works of art. This quilt, Wonderland by Innova Quilting Superstar Renae Haddadin (Show 703 and Show 1613) and Multi-Award winning Karen Kay Buckley (Show 2007), did not win a prize at Houston 2017, but it caught Capt'n John's eye as he took pictures. It is his vote for a non-winning quilt at Houston, that is destined to win at the next show. Don't you agree?
