Here are the quilts for the eleventh team from the over 320 teams that participated in the International Miniature Quilt Exchange (IMQE). 201 teams submitted their quilts to be a part of the Exhibition in Houston 2018 and we are featuring the 24 teams selected for the first IMQE Exhibition.

Location: Vienna, Austria

This is the first time I joined in an exchange as well as making a miniature quilt. I started patchwork and quilting back in 2012 and I think I am still a beginner. When I read about the exchange I was unsure about to join but my quilting friends encouraged me to do so. So I took a deep breath and did it. It is the first time though that I designed a watercolor quilt. I searched the internet for pictures and most of the quilts I found were made of squares or rectangles but I wanted something different. So I decided to go with hexagons. I love to sew by hand so most of my miniature quilt is sewn by hand. I decided to only do a small part of the quilting by machine where several layers made it difficult to stitch through. All other parts are done by hand including the binding. To join an international exchange, to make a miniature quilt for someone I do not know and at last to be brave enough to enter for the show was an exciting experience.

Location: Pharr, Texas, USA

Rio Grande Valley Holidays reflects two of my loves. The first, my love for the spiral lone star from Jan Krentz’s “Lone Star Quilts & beyond”. The lone star is one of the symbols of Texas. The second, my love for my new home in Pharr Texas. Pharr is in the Rio Grande Valley. Our home is about 7 miles north of the border with Mexico. All our holidays have a strong Hispanic influence and are exuberantly celebrated with fireworks.

We were looking for a little bit of fun in Houston when we came across just what we were looking for, Happy Vegetable Fish by Tomiko Onishi. Tomiko's fish turn into vegetables and enjoy happy times together with bubbles of sliced onions. It just brought a smile to our faces.

Marci said she just threw some fabrics together to have fun when she made Diamond In The Rough. We think a little bit more thought may have gone into it than that.
