In looking back at pictures we ran across this wonderful Japanese quilt. It was an award-winning quilt we saw at Houston in 2012 and came from the exhibit "Winning Quilts - International Quilt Week Yokahama 2011". It has a very modern feel and the fabric movement really gives you a feel of the winds. But don't miss the big stitching that is done in a way to add to the movement and feel. Don't you love the use of color?
Nina calls this her "nuts and bolts" quilt and created it for an appearance on the Fons & Porter show. We love the modern look and simplicity of the design. Star Members can watch Nina in Show 2505.
Today we continue our selection of quilts recently displayed at the Spring Paducah 2019 show featured as part of The 14th Quilt Nihon Exhibition. The exhibit is described as:
"Organized by the Japan Handicraft Instructors' Association, the Quilt Nihon Exhibition is one of the most prestigious international quilt contests in Japan. The exhibit features 42 quilts from the "Innovative Traditional" category, which will later be exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art."
Please enjoy the fourteenth quilt from the exhibition by Kimiko Hasumi.

Charlotte Hickman has recreated natural beauty again with her quilt, Thread-Painted Hollyhocks. These larger-than-life flowers just jump off of the quilt, coming forward from the multi-colored background that screams sunshine and spring. The thread painting highlights the flowers and gives them depth and dimension. We'd love to have these in our garden.
Thread-Painted Hollyhocks was on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston 2018 as part of the Naturescape Quilts exhibit.
Superior Threads has some great reference guides to help you with your quilting. Everything from "How Tension Works" to "How Much Thread Does it Take to Make a Quilt?" and the very popular "Thread Selection Guide."
We love the use of the large "Hexies" in Nina's quilt. We are also intrigued by the way she finished the border and the use of her embroidery capabilites in the quilting of the piece.
This wonderful autumn-y collection by Max & Louise for Andover fabrics features a traditional look, in an updated color palette, that truly makes it shine.
We've selected a few appliqué quilt patterns that will truly shine in Yarra Valley's wonderful autumn palette.
Circle of Friends incorporates appliquéd blocks with traditionally pieced bocks, making it a great project for both the beginner and the advanced appliqué afficianado.

We think Cheryl Quesnell's quilt, Sunset Serenity, surpassed her goal of recreating a beautiful sunset in fabric. She used fusible appliqué and machine quilting to create this serene scene which will have you relaxing in no time.
Sunset Serenity was on display as part of the Naturescape exhibit at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2018.
From sequins and feathers to appliqué and towels, this selection of couture designs from past Her Universe fashion shows highlights the unlimited imagination of the designers. Some of the textile manipulation in these dresses is truly "out of this world".
This exhibit, Geek Couture: Designs from the Her Universe Fashion Show, was on display at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego, July 2019.
