Perennial TQS favorite Julie Silber has a brand new show that she has put together with her quilting friends: Alden O'Brien, Barbara Brackman, Debby Cooney, Lynne Bassett, and Merikay Waldvogel. It is called, what else, 6 Quilts With 6 Know-it-Alls and we're pretty sure you're going to love it.
Watch the first episode below and read what it's all about:
"Welcome to the maiden voyage of the quilt history confab, '6 Quilts with 6 Know-it-Alls'! This show, hosted by respected quilt collector and historian Julie Silber, is lots of things: roundtable discussion, kaffeeklatsch, history lesson ... At its heart, '6 Quilts with 6 Know-it-Alls' is no more and no less than six friends sharing with each other their vast knowledge on their favorite topic ever: quilt history!"
TQS continues its feature of quilts exhibited in 2020 at QuiltCon as part of The Quilts of Victoria Findlay Wolfe exhibit. The exhibit is described as:
"Purposeful play is a deliberate free-form practice with one goal in mind: to ultimately improve the outcome of the finished product while capturing a thought, emotion, or technique. Always fascinated by color, pattern, and quilters who came before us, Victoria Findlay Wolfe found her life's true joy in exploring her grandmother's quiltmaking as a starting point.
Her diverse and exciting body of work stirs quilters worldwide to dig deeper, take risks, and experiment with fabric. This retrospective exhibit features a selection of Findlay Wolfe's inspiring quilts and the stories behind them."
Please enjoy Victoria's twentieth quilt from the exhibition.

Using a photo of a stargazer lily that she took in her mother's garden as the basis, the main reason that Andrea Brokenshire wanted to create Stargazer Splendor was to make the anthers, "the part of a stamen that contains the pollen", of the flower. Enthralled with their texture, and their contrast against the fuchsia color, it was this feature that Andrea focused her work on for this piece. As a surprise bonus, there's is a bug hiding in the quilt too. Can you spot where it is?
Did you find the bug? (Hint: It's somewhere in the second photo)

Sometimes we want to view the world through a different lens, and that is how Sandra Ruano Navarro wanted the viewpoint of her quilt to be. Ipsum "was inspired by the Modernist movement, specifically in the pictorial movement of Cubism." Featured in the Appliqué, Small category at Houston 2018, "it is based on the geometric deconstruction of a landscape, applying different patchwork techniques for its assembly." Its focal point is "a scene of daily life in the Playa de las Canteras (Gran Canaria), with its fishing boats and its surroundings within the city" manipulated with hand piecing, appliqué, picture piecing, and vertical panel design to bring a lush beach scene to life out of only structured piecing.

Liberty of London is getting a facelift. The iconic store started to get a major restoration in 2020 so that it can serve many more customers for years to come. Here's what Liberty of London has to say about it:
"Rising up from the timbers of two ancient battleships in 1924, our iconic Grade II* listed heritage building has become a London landmark, welcoming over five million visitors each year. In order to continue its legacy, we've embarked on a major restoration – as we pledge to match the ambition, imagination, technical skill and profound craftsmanship that originally built it."
We continue our selection of quilts exhibited in 2019 at the Houston International Quilt Festival as part of their 45th Anniversary, the Sapphire Anniversary. The Sapphire Celebration exhibit is described as:
"Quilters have long used the color blue to symbolize trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Sapphire is also the chosen gem to celebrate 45th anniversaries—which International Quilt Festival is doing this year (2019)! These new and antique blue and white quilts will be suspended from the ceiling in a spectacular and unforgettable display."
To be a part of the exhibit, quilts had to fit the following criteria:

Based on a true blue iris, Andrea Brokenshire's Beauty is in the Blues was an exercise in manipulation compared to her other flower quilts. The challenge for this one was creating the folding of the petals within only the blue fabric and making the beards of the iris stand out. And what did she make the beards out of it? Santa hat trim! With this added feature, the extra dimension Andrea has given her quilt really brings new life to an already vibrant plant.
