Alexandra Hindrischedt created her quilt, Little Blue Bird, based on one by Margaret Docherty with the title Little Brown Bird. For Alexandra, this quilt was a labor of love. "I sewed all the appliqué by hand, they are partly stuffed and decorated with embroideries. There are also trapunto blocks done by hand at the top. I did the longarm quilting myself." Winning First Place Traditional at the World Quilt Competition at PIQF 2019, Little Blue Bird is a wonder to behold with some piece of hand appliqué or machine quilting catching your eye at every turn. Can you spot the little blue bird?

Little Blue Bird by Alexandra Hindrischedt of Germany won First Place Traditional in the World Quilt Competition at the Pacific International Quilt Festival (PIQF) 2019.

Such an exquisite quilt. I have the 2 of Margaret Docherty's books - Little Brown Bird and Birds and Roses, they are a delight for anyone who loves applique.

Every part of this quilt is painstakingly beautiful.
