Capt'n John does not like my border for my Basket Puzzle Quilt. I have hidden it from you during this whole class. Now I will reveal it so we can all agree that Capt'n John's choice to marry me...good. His design choices...up for a vote. I will give you my tips for choosing borders for any quilt and then choices for the Basket Puzzle Quilt. It's going to be fun. Join me LIVE on Monday Oct 26 at 10am PDT, 1pm EDT, and 6pm London time.

I love the coin border — I’m a fan of busy pieced quilts, too.

The silk quilt is really a stunner!

Your choice for the basket quilt border looks great! The way it uses the same size as the smallest elements in the quilt and repeats the fabrics in the body of the quilt really nails it down. I’ve used this kind of “piano keys” border on a very busy quilt before and loved the effect. I’ve enjoyed following your teaching videos for this quilt and seeing all the different quilts from members. You’re making a great contribution to the mental health of all your viewers during these very tough times. Thank you!

I really like the border, Alex. I wouldn't want to see a spacer in there.

I’m catching up on all your videos. Back in Sept you were talking about lighting. My husband is an electrician and LED lighting prices have came down a lot it would do to look into if you haven’t.

I am not a big fan of orange, but in the quilt that you showed that has the orange inner border laid out on the right side, I think it works. Or us orange that's just a bit lighter.
There is some smattering of orange in the quilt and it helps pull that out. It also helps make the other parts of the quilt stand out more.
It also brings some life to the quilt.
The one thing that I do see though is the orange in the basket on the lower left stands out a lot in contrast to the other bits of orange in the quilt.
I would either place it more in the center of the quilt, or go with a lighter orange like in other parts of the quilt.
And maybe add a tiny bit of the light orange to the right of the large basket on the upper right side.
Personally I think that if it doesn't have an inner border that is in some contrast to the rest of the quilt the quilt will not be as eye catching.
Just my opinion though.
Either way it's a beautiful quilt!
