Ann Gonzalez - "Daddy's Delight" a Houston 2019 Quilt

Inspired by the La Passacaglia Quilt from the book Millefiori Quilts by Willyne Hammerstein, Ann Gonzalez couldn't bear to cut away the finished blocks to square up her quilt, Daddy's Delight, as the pattern instructed. So she instead hand appliquéd it to the background fabrics and added additional floating stars.

Daddy's Delight by Ann Gonzalez of Surprise, Arizona was featured in the Balanced Piecing and Appliqué category at Houston 2019.

Quilts do not have to be square or rectangular - unless they are to go on a bed. No one in their right mind would even think of letting children jump on this quilt on a bed.
If I had made something as wonderful as this, I wouldn't cut the sides off either. What are you supposed to do with the bits you cut off ? Make a handbag ?

Ann this is beautiful and I love the little pops of color, you truly made this your own design with the floating stars as well. Well done. Congratulations and well deserved

This is magnificent! I actually like the design a lot better as appliques than as an allover. I think the "fiori" are better enhanced the way Ann has done them here.
