I am trying to figure out my balancing act. I have never worked for a circus so all the skills that require balancing such as tightrope walking, standing on the back of a running horse, or swinging on a trapeze are totally lost on me. But, I now find myself coming face to face with my lack of skills for balancing. As the weeks run into months of staying home, my lack of balance in the Bee Hive (my sewing room) cannot be ignored. I spent a morning cleaning up all the little piles that laid all about, and with the cleaning was the discovery of long forgotten projects. I decided to make a list of all the types of stitching I love...

  1. Piecing
  2. Quilting
  3. Needle Turn Appliqué
  4. Hexies
  5. Fusible Appliqué
  6. Wool Appliqué Stitching
  7. Wool Felting
  8. Sashiko
  9. Embroidery
  10. Cross Stitch
I was thinking of making some type of schedule for myself...rotating through all the different genres and seeing if I could make any headway. On the other hand, it seems that I am not a very good rule follower...nor a schedule follower. What I do know is that having good balance is imperative as we age!

What does your list look like? And how do you balance your creative life?

I'm a perpetual list maker and always have a to Do List for the day and the week. However, as a retiree, if I don't get to something on the list today, it can slip to tomorrow or later this week, or even next week. And so it goes. Creatively, I try to work on my quilting every afternoon. I don't have many UFO's, but I do have a LONG list of projects I want to begin, so when one project is finished, the next one is available.

Sorry, no help. I love all forms of needlework and sewing and have so many projects begun, projects planned in my head... but lately have only really made masks. After making them for weeks, I haven't been able to restart with anything 'fun'. As some have said, they feel paralyzed in their creative endeavors, I am also. I'm trying to turn off all the bad news, difficult news, unrest, and stress of my own life, and trying to do anything creative. I am still a work-in-progres s...

I have always heard that creative minds have a hard time focusing. We get so involved in the current project but it makes us think of others and off we go. As I have gotten older I seem to be a little better at staying on task as I want the project finished. That said, there is always another project percolating in the background of my head.

When working on a current project, I find my mind thinks about a 2nd project. Thus current project is not as good as it should be due to lack of attention.

I can relate. I am a really good schedule 'maker' but not a very good schedule 'follower'. That is a problem.
