Inspired by Pointillism, the art of acrylic paint dotting, Kyra Reps created the center Mandala in her quilt Serendipity using circles of various sizes. Even more impressive than the hundreds of circles used throughout the quilt, is the fact that Kyra individually hand-turned and hand-sewed each one!

Serendipity by Kyra Reps of Northwood, Iowa was featured in the Appliqué, Large category, sponsored by EZ Quilting, at Houston 2019.

The word Hand in applique is a four letter word to me, but your work is absolutely exquisite. It makes me wish I had the talent and patients to create something so incredibly beautiful.

Simply stunning. Your workmanship is exquisite. I would never have the patience to do the needle turn applique on those small dots, so I say you have patience and perseverance.

I really admire those who do needle turn appliqué! My temperament requires faster gratification! I can do needle turn (except inner angles like the yellow swirls) but not as beautifully and perfectly as this fantastic piece. Was the your “lockdown” project, or did it take longer?
