Carolinas by Terry Sargent Peart won the Best Use of Color award at Road to California 2020. Each block was inspired by sketches she made while vacationing with her husband. She simplified the sketches and made blocks representing the sun, sea, and sky which resulted in a very colorful quilt.

Bright, cheery colors. Bet it was a lot of fun to make.

This quilt makes me smile and take a second look to see if I can interpret what your sketch was

What a fun piece to explore! The piecing is so liberated and the colors are so bright.

The colors are great but what really got my attention was her simple use of echo quilting. Mostly just one or two patterns of quilting taken from some part of each block and echoed through the whole block. It really makes the whole quilt zing with energy! Love it!
