One of the most amazing things about having a hobby...is that you are only one stitch or snip away from another passion. Back in the 1990s when I started to quilt, I thought it was all about putting pieces of fabric together. Then I discovered how to incorporate my love of embroidery into my quilting world. Along came stitching with wool and my stitching life exploded into another direction. It is not that I left my love for the other genres, but that they inspired me to keep an open mind and heart to something that will broaden my horizons! And with each path I travel I meet the most amazing artisans who are willing to share their love of the craft they are involved with.
And, it was at the Fall Fling Retreat put on by Acorn's and Threads in Portland, Oregon that I met Nancy Rose, who brought a bit of show 'n tell that put the "W" in WOW!
When I think of cross stitch I tend to think of something small that you frame...not something that is the size of a quilt and can keep you warm during October!!! This Stoney Creek Collection piece was originally released in their magazine as monthly installments but is now available as a full chart. It took Nancy 3 years and 8 months and she enjoyed every stitch! It took 36 skeins of black floss alone!!
Creativity breeds more creativity and boy am I inspired on so many levels by her creation! Take a close look at some of the motifs and I hope you are inspired to create with whatever medium you love!
