"Equality" a Quilt by Hollis Chatelain

Born from a dream, Hollis Chatelain worked with pink for the first time in her quilt Equality (59" x 79"). The quilt has over 350 quotes about women in the background. However, we feel the look says it all.

Equality won the World of Beauty award at the Houston International Quilt Festival 2019. Congratulations Hollis!

Absolutely beautiful, stunning, powerful, amazing and incredible! I can't say enough about this quilt! The beautiful art work throughout the quilt and all the messages, just captured me and made me want to look at it over and over again! Wonderful quilt!

Hollis is currently exhibiting 15 of her pieces titled Stories of West Africa at the San Jose (California) Museum of Quilts and Textiles thru January 12, 2020. Well worth a road trip to see the her exquisite quilted creations in person.

Having been discriminated against because of my gender I have lost opportunities for employment when I was the most qualified person for the job. This happened in the 21st Century.. Disgusting but true. This quilt is just a tip,of the iceburg sorry to say, but true. We as women have a lot more work to do to reach equality. this quilt should be a rallying point.

My admiration of the talent of Hollis knows no bounds. Her messages are always pertinent and heart touching. I am sure many quilters see themselves in her daughter. Her win is a credit to her talent and insight.
