Alethea Ballard, the Maverick Quilter, has a unique approach to her quilting. She combines collage, broiderie perse, imagination, and of course appliqué that is....well, exuberant. (Alex took the pictures and forgot to take a picture of the signs.) So enjoy the quilts and art and visit Alethea's website to learn more. These quilts were on display at Bay Quilts, in El Cerrito, CA.

I am overwhelmed. These are so exciting to look at and each of them needs to be revisited a lot in order to 'see' everything. What talent and humor!

I want to be as free of the quilting rules as Alethea when I grow up.
I'm in my 70s now, when should I let go and fly?
