Around here, when we think of Convergence Quilts, we think of Ricky Tims, but with Cassandra Ireland Beaver's quilt, Complementary Convergence, we are off into a whole different world. We thought it might be a strip-pieced quilt, turns out we were wrong. There are only a few pieces of fabric, all the design was created by thread.

Cassandra's quilt was on display at AQS QuiltWeek Paducah Spring 2019 in the Wall Quilts - Modern category.

66" x 78"

HA!! Got it!! There are two units that are pieced. Looking closely at the big picture reveals the 1/4" seam lines. I was fooled by studying the closeup. She did a masterful job of disguising those seamlines with the quilting. Good one, Cassandra!!

How did she get the background color in the solid colored blocks? Close inspection says they are not pieced and the solid color part is not quilted. This is the first to have me totally stumped!

I love the light airy feel of it. Does it have batting in it?

This is a stunning quilt and a wonderful study in color theory. It makes you re-think what you can do with just three items; a single piece of fabric, a sewing machine, and a collection of thread. I’m going to be thinking about this quilt for a long time.
