At Spring Quilt Market, Ricky Tims showed us a glimpse of his new project. He is combining a young adult book with sewing and quilting. He....let's let him explain. Take a look.

I'm looking forward to find out more about this! For a long time I've thought about using quilting as the foundation for an afterschool program for at-risk kids. There isn't a subject in any level in education that cannot be taught by using some aspect in quilting as the springboard. I've been writing a curriculum over the past couple of years and I've learned a lot about different school subjects as I've been digging into research. I am passionate about all children having access to a quality education that focuses on the way each student learns. At-risk kids don't have a supportive home environment so they need the extra attention by someone who regularly is present with them to help with challenging school work so they can (1) really learn and retain what they've learned and (2) develop confidence and positive self-esteem. The only way I can think of doing this is in some type of afterschool program so it would be consistent. I'll stop now - you can tell I'm excited!

As a school librarian I was always on the hunt for books to capture the children's imagination - this sounds like it fits the bill. Can't wait for it to come out.
