Note to Kate B who very kindly mentioned me by name: we all have the right to state our opinions and closing the window and ignoring something we don't agree with is not the democratic way. I am not suggesting that patching is not a good thing, I am just saying that this video is not up to the usual standard that we all expect from the Quilt Show. If you don't agree with me, that's fine but please don't give me instructions as to how I should behave.

Patching and mending are a great jumping off point for creativity. Repairing a moth hole with a bit of fabric and decorative stitching and beads can give a new look or extend the life in a favorite sweater that you hate to part with.

Happy stitching,

Lilo

I love this! Years ago I started mending my painting contractor husband's pants by sewing beautifully quilted patches onto the knees. It not only extended the life of his pants, but also gave him extra padding for when he knelt down to paint lower areas. Changing throw-away mentality can certainly enhance our lives!

@jogibson this does enhance our lives. Enormous amounts of textiles hit the waste stream daily, patching them keeps them in usable shape. In my mind, it is more hand work, which I love! Reduce is the first of the three “R’s”....

We used to mend our clothes out of necessity like this. Now it's a fashion statement! This is similar to the "Mending Matters" book that is so popular now. I love looking at the different styles. Note to jogibson: If a certain style doesn't appeal to you, just close the window. No need to disparage a certain skill simply because you don't like it. The quilt show has a large enough variety to appeal to everyone!

TACKY ! I have done tons of mending on denim jeans. One pair had 57 patches and looked so much neater and better than this.. No exageration. This video totally sucks and looks sooo unprofessional. Maybe backwoods if the person had nothing else to work with and no experience or common sense with sewing. Ricky, I am so disappointed. I wouldn't wear something like that to pull weeds or go to a dog fight. Where on earth is your head?

How anyone can find this attractive is beyond me. The Quilt Show should be showing us things that can enhance our skills or life, not this rubbish.
