Carolyn Friedlander's beautiful quilt, Hunt Harriot Quilt, is an exploration of color, pattern, and texture through a repeated appliqué shape. It is hand pieced, hand appliquéd, machine pieced and machine quilted. Exquisite in its simplicity, Carolyn's quilt won 1st Place Appliqué at QuiltCon 2019.

Circle, repeat, same shape, same size equals a winning design. The palate is also understated, which highlights the changes in color. The straight line quilting makes the circles pop. Great job!

She has a signature style, much like being able to identify Caryl Bryer Fallerts quilts. (See the video.)
I would wonder if judges notice that and that it helps their decision. In this particular piece, the thing that I find distracting is the black version--it does not look like a true circle--looks a bit pointed at the bottom of inner rim. But, it is possible our viewing is obscured by the lay of the quilt.
